Chiefs sign 145kg younger brother of will Skelton

The 145kg, 205cm Auckland born giant is to join the two-time Super Rugby winning rugby club in efforts aimed at enticing players back to New Zealand.

Chiefs High Performance Manager Chris Tindall said “Cameron possess what we are looking for in a lock with his size, strength and potential so our focus will be on developing him further through our development programme.”

The recruitment of Skelton is part of the Chiefs actively providing pathways and opportunities to New Zealand born players who want to come back and progress their rugby to a higher level through the Chiefs.

Skelton has played both league and rugby and represented Samoa at the recent IRB Junior World Championship held in New Zealand last month and has been a member of the Waratahs U20 squad.

Skelton will join the Waikato U19 squad when he arrives in New Zealand.

Waikato Emerging Players Manager Kent Currie said “It is great for the Waikato Rugby Union to secure a player of Cameron’s caliber for our development programme.”

“We believe this signing will be exciting not only for the Waikato high performance programme but also for our community game and we look forward to helping Cameron develop into a future Waikato ITM Cup and Chiefs player.”
