In other news, it looks like Sam Warburton is not going to be ready for the 1st test and Peter O'Mahoney has deservedly emerged as the most likely to captain the Lions in Warburton's absence.

By contrast, All Black skipper Kieran Read should be ready for the Saturday's test.

Trip was great! My feet are glad to be home though. As good as public transport is in the first world, as a tourist you still walk a heck of a lot!

In short:

Venice: Beautiful, clean, interesting city. Not as smelly as everyone warned (maybe I was lucky?) but quite expensive.

Florence: Amazing art works in just about every square in the city. Climbed the Duomo - nearly 400 steps but worth it for the view!

Riomaggiore/Vernazza: Our favourite locations on the holiday. I'd recommend Cinque Terre to anyone. Just Google Cinque Terre and check out the photos. It really is just like that.

Rome: Great for sightseeing but the city is dirty and they don't take the same pride in the city that you see in Venice and Florence. So depressing to see so many beautiful churches and other buildings with graffiti scrawled all over them. Palatine Hill was fascinating though as was the Vatican Museum, although it's so full of people it's actually a mission to get around it.

Istanbul: Second favourite stop of our holiday. Such friendly people! Great food!

Lions now putting the Chiefs to the sword. C'mon Lions!

Well done Lions. A much needed confidence booster for the dirt-trackers.

I see some of our Kiwi posters have recently given Baboon-ou some competition for the title of biggest ref-bashing crybaby on the board. Wonder if they'll use the ref as an excuse for a comprehensive 34-6 hammering?

Can't wait for Saturday morning! Come on Lions!!!

Blue, budget more than you think for food and wine!

You can actually eat and drink quite cheaply if your accommodation has cooking facilities. The markets have fantastic fresh produce and you can buy a perfectly drinkable bottle of wine for under 2€ (or a Birra Moretti - 660ml for 1.5€ if you're a beer drinker) at the supermarkets. If you're eating out, you're paying around 15€ for a basic pasta meal and 4€ for a single glass of wine or a beer.

I didn't say it was great, I said it was drinkable . . . and it wasn't Cardboardeaux either. There's a supermarket chain in Italy called Conad where you can buy Cardboardeaux for €1.20 a litre!

Pleased to see that you're sportsmanship in defeat is so obvious.

What would have been your comment if the tables were turned?
You would be gloating big time.
Also, remember that the killer #8 from England also missed the tour.

ha ha, AJ the prognosticator. I saw this as a nothing game and haven't yet watched it. Sure congrats to the Lions, it would have been bad for the series if they lost it. My impression is they are building well for the test match but as I said, I haven't watched this particular game yet.
Glad you are back Rooi, sounds like you had a good time!

Sounds like someone scraped himself through a cheap two week holiday. If it's the way he roles he would have been much better off buying a bottle or two of Oom Tas or Lieberstein at Duty Free to take with him.

Have a go at Rooi, its fun to watch you guys go at it....but ffs, boasting about your wealth is epically childish. I can't even afford to go to Italy at the moment, never mind be picky about what I drink when I get there.

Ag ou Rooitjie, does that mean you never had your dinner at the rooftop Restaurant Terrazza Danieli sipping a nice crisp Corton Charlemagne looking out over the splendour of Venice? Hahaha.....Blooo does that help. Actually you couldn't pay me enough money to go to Venice, Rome or Florence in June....although I have always lusted after Cardboardeaux. Waaaaaaaaaahhahahaha!

Bluebok get off your high horse and look at the facts before ranting about Moz and myself.
UrineRooi is entirely to be blamed and if you wanna have a go, have a go at him.
Here, the facts, after what started off as an amicable conversation( a rare feat) with him about our holidays he then turned around and said I was going on a cheap holiday hence the reason I could afford to go. I let that go knowing full well that he was being typically snide and nasty. He was the one who brought cheap into it not me. He was the one making out that he was going on a better holiday than me, he was the one saying look at me I'm doing better than you.
I don't mind a few plums being thrown at me but don't expect me not to return the favour in kind.....and I am.
What you don't get is that UrineRooi brings it on himself and as an example just have a look at how he reacts to Monsterbok who dared to disagree with him. Look at the way he tries to demean Monsterbok in his response by picking on a spelling error as ammunition to mock the bloke ......typical UrineRooi. That post is still on the board and if you're looking for it it's under the "Coenie" blog of posts.
He has a long history of picking up on spelling and grammar errors to put mock and in the process making out that he has a superior education. He has called me semi literate many many times and it's just another way of trying to make posters feel inferior.
My point is if you still don't get is that it's always about him doing better and being better than anyone else until he shoots himself in the foot and mouth by exposing himself like he has in this instance with regards to his holiday.
Another of his "grand" efforts was to snoop my social media accounts where he discovered partial proof of my past career. He then found a website which stated the salary of that said career all the time using that information to put me down on a rugby site. By the bye the salary quoted on that site is for a fourth world country and it also only reflected a part of my career status not all of it. Still, he manipulated it to his advantage to put me down.
So before coming on here and shrieking "Denny and Moz...tell me, is it cool to mock people who...." I strongly recommend that you get your facts straight, ask yourself why is it that Moz, myself and a few others always seem to be mocking your beloved ass-hole, UrineRooi.
There is an obvious answer....he brings it on himself. There is no-one else on here who suffers being mocked as much as UrineRooi.

Moz, just how stupid is he? Tight on budget, I mean tighter than a Bookmaker's ass-hole, you would think he'd go in the low season. It's common knowledge that everything is so much more expensive in the high season.......geeez man he is thick! A smart man would have picked up some plonk in Duty Free.... an immediate saving which would have left him with an extra Euro to feed himself  on a bigger helping of potjie kos. Who knows, stretching his Euro's he could have had a can of Bully Beef for variety of menu. It's certainly not his finest effort.

". . . he then turned around and said I was going on a cheap holiday hence the reason I could afford to go."

A complete lie.

Dense, our discussions around our respective holidays had nothing at all to do with price or whose was cheap or expensive, all we debated were the merits of a holiday planned by oneself compared to a package deal.

I suspect it's just your natural inferiority complex that makes you suddenly think your package deal was the cheaper option (I actually doubt it was ) but I have zero recollection of us discussing or even mentioning the respective prices. All I recall was me saying I preferred to stay in the places I wanted to stay, eat in the restaurants I want to eat and visit the sites I want to visit as opposed to running after some oke with a flag and doing what he tells you to do as he herds you from queue to queue.

That's what we discussed. Go back and find even one example of me saying my holiday was more expensive than yours and I'll make a public apology . . . failing that, admit that you are a low class liar who will say pretty much anything to back up your equally low-class and ill-bred master.

Okay? Fair?

Your preoccupation with your own worth vs mine was evident on that post you started where you said the cyber equivalent of "nyaah nyaah nyaah" and went on to claim you earned so much more than me . . . just before I pointed out that I actually know what you did/do for a living and put up the salary bracket (which tells me that you earn roughly a fifth of what I was earning at that time.)

Remember that rather embarrassing and humiliating post that you started, Dense?

LMAO!

Now run along and trawl through the archives to find the post of mine where I even mentioned the cost of our respective holidays. Good luck finding it and - once you've given up - I'll have to wish you even more luck in summoning up the courage to man up and admit you were lying. Off you go, Dense. There's a good chap . . .

LOL @ plum.
Moz and D, I have no problem apologising, based mostly on D's statement above being a pretty convincing explanation. That said, if you read this thread in isolation you do both come across as ridiculously snobbish. I comment on what is in front of me, I make no secret of the fact that I tend to forget things posted in the past, and I can't really be bothered to sift through thousands of posts to try and find some historic reference.
Hahaha, I just re-read my own post above. I do come across as trying to be the "boards conscience" living out of a septic tank where I lick the road clean with my tongue (thanks Monty Python), but in explanation, I can't stand people that show off...hence my reaction.

You the Liar, go and find the post yourself.
You mocked my trip and intimated that because of what I did for a living I could only afford cheap holidays.
".....than yours and I'll make a public apology...."
Now there's a laugh, you've been caught out so many times and you've never ever apologized so why would I waste my time looking for that post? I have nothing to prove to you, I know what you said and that's all I need.
