the bulls team to play the cheetahs is as follows,,,
Zane Kirchner, Akona Ndungane, JJ Engelbrecht, Wynand Olivier, Bjorn Basson, Mornè Steyn, Francois Hougaard, Pierre Spies (c), Jacques Potgieter, Dewald Potgieter, Juandrè Kruger, Flip van der Merwe, Werner Kruger, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Dean Greyling. Replacements: Willie Wepener, Frik Kirsten, Wilhelm Steenkamp, CJ Stander, Jano Vermaak, Louis Fouché, Francois Venter.
did cj stander get dropped to the bench cos hes leaving to play up north??? hes been one of the form looseforwards with the bulls along with j potgieter and IMO cj should start over dewald.
cj stander query???
I'm guessing his leaving may have contributed to being dropped, it will have pissed the coaching staff off I reckon. I would guess his loyalty to the side is in question now
Saffex
I think Stander has the same problem as Roux - too amy contenders for selection in the lock and loosie positions and thus problems in selection for the Springboks. Roux in particular was unfortunate that he was injured at the wrong time and left an opening for Etzebeth - who established himself in the Springbok side and will be difficult to dislodge.
You only get one chance in such situations and that is unfortunate. I would pick Stander ahead of Potgieter anytime - but that did not happen as the latter is apparently preferred by the Bulls selectors.
Be it as it may - the youngsters must look for best playing career opportunities and that is the end of the story.
if his moving up north really is why he has been relegated to the bench, then bulls need a lesson in professionalism.
the idea is to pick the best man for th job and unless they genuinely think that dewald is better then cj (even if form proves otherwise) then so be it.
@clevermike,
i do think that stander moving up north is a waste though, he had a good chance to make the Boks as both he and coetzee have impressed me the most with saafas up incoming players.
i cant help but think cj should have waited and signed for another 2 years, especially with the age factor amongst some of the Bok loosies.
then again, know one really has any idea of cj standers finanicial situation and maybe money was something he needed for his family and what not, but what ever the reason, i hope this isnt the last we see of this player, cos hes freakin awesome and all the potential to be a real superstar.
No Mike, Roux has a reason to be pissed off, he had the stupid Coetzee believing that de Kock Steenkamp was better than him all S15 - how idiotic. Steenkamp is bog ordinary, while Roux looks like the real deal. Coetzee has completely messed this whole situation up.
My fear is that he will do the same to players like JP du Plessis, Pat Howard, Kobus v/Wyk, Pollard and Oliver Kebble
Yep stupid old Coetzee if only he followed the Sapp's diagnosis, perhaps things would be different.....after all who wants to be at the top of the log?
Coetzee should lose some more then he'd be a genius like Lancaster.....hahaha.
Saf, WP wanted some silverware real bad and even if it was only the Vodacom Cup, were not prepared to commandeer Roux for the Stormers in an emergency. Same with some of the loosies. We have some good structures at Newlands and although we sometimes bleed them young, when the need is there, we also understand the importance of experience. There is a reason why there is a good mix of youth and experience in most successful RWC winning sides. Youngsters need some guidance to help them channel the extra energy they have in a positive way.
Moffie take it a bright spark like yourself rates de Kock Steenkamp over Quinn Roux - shock, shock
Sorry Draad by that is just complete nonsense on WP's part. The S15 squad should be about selecting the best players and if this was the case Roux should have been included ahead of the very average Steenkamp from the start.
In choosing to retain Roux in the Vodacom Cup squad with a view to winning a worthless Vodacom Cup title, they might have just pissed Roux off enough to lead him to sign for the Irish club. Roux is clearly miles better than Steenkamp and found himself missing out on the action in the name of an inferior cup. This to me is pathetic management and good old WP are now suffering the consequences - Coetzee clearly does not have his finger on the pulse - they have already lost Sadie, JJ, Poolman and Roux. Poor JP du Plessis never gets any game time, what are Coetzee and gang going to do with the likes of future stars like Pat Howard, Kobus v/Wyk, Pollard, Kebble and co.
If Roux had rightfully played a full season of S15 rugby, chances are he would still be at the Stormers next season. Coetzee has cocked up bigtime and needs to catch a wake up.
I don't agree that they pissed him off, if that was the case, he would not return in May next year, remember he is still behind Bekker, Etzebeth and Elstadt in the pecking order. Steenkamp is there for the bit of xp needed if Bekker is out, but by May next year he will have enough xp to jump Steenkamp in the order. Good move by him. Let the Irish pay for his tuition.
My point is that Steenkamp should not have been there in the first place as he is not good enough. Roux is far better and chances are he is pissed off. You dont leave if you are happy. Whats stopping the Irish extending his contract once they find out how good he is - this is a strong possibilty and a good chance we lose him for good. I personally think Coetzee and co have cocked this up bigtime
Is that your professional view? You haven't thought that just maybe Coetzee & Co knew all this, and there are other factors beyond your ken?
No professional view has nothing to do with it, its a hunch.....the kid was probably pissed off and disillusioned with finding himself behind the bog ordinary Steenkamp and wasting his time playing Vodacom rugby - chances are it was an easy decision to make.
Hell its not the first player to leave under Coetzee, the man seems to make a habit of missing the boat
