Two key men to the Sharks campaign today were Fransie and Alberts. Massive hits by them to put province off their game and set the tone! Fransies vision and beautiful long pass for the disallowed try was class.

Mike, time to wake up from this world u living in. Fransie and willem are musts in the bok setup.

Future at lock is looking bright. Etzebeth and steph du toit will be better than Botha an matfield combination and that's no easy feat.

Yeah, mike reckons all back line movements break down around Fransie. Bull shit. He is just experienced and classy enough to know when to throw the pass and when to keep it tight. He is a class act and if he carries on this form and further progresses his conditioning and confidence, he and Jean will be rocks in our midfield

Just tell me something to clear up the issue - what hits are you talking about?   Steyn made one very good tackle and the rest of the so-called hits - when did they happen?  The other tackles was bog ordinary and nothing special.

If they were that strong - why was Albert never mentioned by any of the commentators in the first half od the game?   Another question - De Allende took the "big hit" never lost possession of the ball and placed it for recovery by his side.

Both players you mentioned as the key to the Sharks victory had a minimal impact on the game - the real impact was by  Du Toit and Lambie.

Both Fransie and Alberts let down the Boks badly in the past - and if selected they will let them down again in future.   Both are as slow as prop forwards - in attack meaningless and in defence I must admit - better than Jannie Du Plessis,  but likely to miss tackles like Steyn missed one on De Allende yesterday and  Alberts missed Read at Ellis Park.

Sorry - but I look at games carefully and critically in full and do not get away with one episode rubbish.   I also take note of when players give away penalties and what happened after they were subbed.   The Sharks would have done better without them than with them - fact.

Mike you are speaking shit, Frans has never let the Boks down and nor has Alberts.

Frans had a huge final yesterday and that's a fact, simply because he is a class act.

Its a measure of just how good he is given he is only just back from a long injury lay off.

Frans will walk the Bok squad and will be in the match 23 where he belongs - pure class

Saffex

And Alberts did not miss a crucial tackle on Read in the Ellis Park test that led to Ben Smith's try.  He did not fell over his own feet when he was the nearest player to Aaron Smith to recover the ball after Smith was tackled - will led to the first Messam try in the same match?  And he did not miss tackles of two try-scoring players in the Samoan test?   Those are just examples from two tests this year and to my mind constituted letting down of the Springboks.

Then we have Francois Steyn - he had poor matches in the past as well - last year in particular when he was overweight and slow and crashballed 80% of the time he got the ball - thus destroying any potential backline attack of the Springboks.   He is still slow in execution and play and lack the speed to play at center.   That too was obvious yesterday.   I think he cold make it -but there are still areas of play that he must get back  and that he has the opportunity to do in Super 15 next year.   I definitely prefer De Villiers, Engelbrecht and Serfontein in the center positions.

Even yesterday most of Steyn's plays ended up amongst the forwards - where he made little headway.  The two instances of good play - where he ran into defenders and passed the ball wide before actual contact,  I did mention earlier in my comments would have let to tries - but for prior mistakes by the Sharks.

My question remains - how would Steyn manage in a fast moving attacking backline context?   I am not at all convinced that he would equal the performance of the previously mentioned players.

So lets wait and see what happens next year on Super 15 level and hope he can be a good attacking player - and  than make assessment of the situation.

Yes Alberts missed a tackle, all players miss tackles, Jean missed 2 in that test for instance.
I would not select Alberts in my side, but he is a handy player.
As for Frans, as I have pointed out all year, he was great at the start of the S15, had a few quieter games thanks to the Sharks suffering and then was poorly treated by Plumtree later in the S15.

Venter and co proved that Plum got it wrong and they rightly invested in Frans straight away. Class is perm, form temp.

This notion that Frans lacks the pace to keep up with a fast moving backline is complete and utter horseshit. Frans has never lacked pace and is more than quick enough to play 12.

Frans walks my Bok 23 everytime

 Mike:
why was Albert never mentioned by any of the commentators in the first half od the game
You sure about that? I am gona give you time to retract that statement otherwise I will go back over the 1st half and mark each time he was mentioned and you will be proven a liar again.
I am not worried too much about the rest of your "Frans and Alberts have let the Boks down" bullshit but this statement takes the cake!
The Sharks would have done better without them than with them - fact.
Ha ha oh Mike, so a 33-19 victory against an unbeaten WP side at a capacity Newlands is a walk in the park? How much better did you want? Maybe a 50 point drubbing in the final of a competition involving strength on strength? Sharks played the perfect game. WP never had 1 rally on our tryline like we ad on theirs. De Allende scored early and after that, they hardly smelled our try line. Sharks were disallowed a try that I feel was extremely pedantic officiating from that TV hungry linesman and another try where SP Marais was forced into touch a metre out. Steyn's early hit on Kolbe took that livewire out of the game. The wee man just wasn't himself. He didnt want to run anywhere near our centres as he knew Steyn was lurking and Kolbe and Aplon love to pop up in the centres usually.
You are right though Mike, 100 points was on the cards had we not had Fransie and Alberts getting in the way!! haha Mike you are losing the plot bro!It was those two players along with PSDT that set the tone for the match and took WP out of the game. Frans was hitting guys back all day and he did it to De Villiers too!

Who was Steyn  "hitting back"  all day?   Must have been amongst the forwards - since he only made one tackle on De Allende and missed one as well.  Whenever Steyn did get the ball - other than the two cases. which I mentioned specifically - he went into the forwards and crashballed - that being his standard play since his return from France.  Still as slow a  carthorse  and still overweight is our Fransie.

And Alberts remains a match losing investment - cost us two tries at Ellis Park with no added benefit at all.   The worst and most limited fat loosie SA had in the past decade.  What does he bring to the party - nothing in line outs, zilch in mauls and no ball recovery ever, with a low tackle count thrown in - doing about 10% of what i s expected from a loosie,   The sooner he goes - the better our back row will be.

Willem Alberts played like a man possessed. He was fantastic.

He was used repeatedly as a line out option, his tackling was superb, he carried powerfully and got much needed go forward, he cleaned out effectively behind the ruck He played a massif role in the Sharks victory. Of that there's no doubt.

There's no better blindsider in the country and that DumbMike ... is a "fact" ...

Fat Fransie Steyn didn't do it for me. He put in a few awesome hits and I cannot find fault with him defensively ... however that was about it.

To be fair, there were a few moments where he found himself in the right place at the right time and showed that with a lot of hard work he may just be up to playing good rugby again. He is however NOT a test player ... yet ... and I hope Meyer doesn't embarrass us by selecting this out of shape hasbeen.

He needs to shed at least 10kg. I'll reserve further judgement on the chubbster till later.

Bismarck was enormous ... again. What a giant. His presence is like that of having an additional two men on the park.

Patrick Lambie take a bow. He showed what a class act he is. He would be my starting 10 without a doubt. No better 10 in the country currently.

Steff Du Toit is a monster. What an awesome Bok lock pair we have. Best in the world ... by some way.

Schreuder was completely out played by McLoed. Sorry DumbMike but once again you saw something in a player that doesn't exist.

Can't wait to see what Meyer's thoughts are.

Fair comment CC. Frans Steyn's best rugby came at 100 to 102kg's between 2006 to 2009. Program had him listed as 110kg's on the weekend so you probably spot on in terms of the 10kg's he needs to lose. 7-10kg's and he will be in the condition I wana see him in and the condition I was talking about Jake and co getting him back into. He will probably also gain heaps of confidence with people commenting positively on his appearance and conditioning instead of how fat he is and he will feel like an athletic machine.
Until then, who do we get to partner Jean? Jaque Fourie seems our best option although Saffex will claim Howard Mnisi is a better player!

Yeah Logic ... the center spot as you say is a bit of an issue ... one that needs urgent attention ... question is ... who??

I'm not a fan of bringing all the old players back into the mix, especially with all the talent we have ... however ... I would MUCH prefer Fourie than JJ.

I wish Pat Howard would get himself sorted now. He showed some awesome form before he was injured. I really like the lad.

De Allende ... ??? Hanekom ... ??

We need someone dynamic at 13.

I see Meyer's announcing his squad at 16h30 today.

Look forward to it.

I think we have a problem here and that can be solved if we club together and collect some money for the commentator to get a pair of specs.   How can he miss out on all the wonderful play by Alberts in the first half and not mention his extra-ordinary achievements not even once!!!!!   The poor bugger must be blind not to  see what is happening on the field of play.

Come now - I am prepared to give R100 for the purpose and also pay for specs in full for you - not the type that creates mythical views - but real life views.   That really would help with your viewing of rugby games.

I would love to see a proper blindside flank on the field of play and not a recycled prop in that position and hope Meyer's eyes see the same as what is really happening.   Hell Jannie made a better attempt to tackle De Allende - than Alberts did in the Read case at Ellis Park - at least he did not end up flat on his face like Alberts did.

Once upon a fine sunny day back when national service was still a requirement for young South African boys, DumbMike's Mommy and Daddy went all the way through to see him complete his basic training ... with full pomp and ceremony.

All the dignitaries were there ... dressed up in there finest, all sporting chests full of medals.

Mommy and Daddy sat proudly on the grandstands awaiting the marching troops to come by so that they could look for their dear pimple faced little DumbMaaaakie and cheer him on.

With a gasp they spotted him and watched him march by to the Sargent Major's time ... "left, left, left right left"

Mommy turns to daddy and says to him proudly "oh look dear, little ol DumbMaaaakie is the only one in step" ...

Seems your still the only one in step today.

Alberts made 52 tackles in the Rugby Championship, 6th most of all 4 teams. Thats excellent considering he got subbed every game. Stop talking rubbish Mike.

A certain poster has his opinion of a certain rugby player, he voices it, it's positive, he supports the lad, selects him week in week out in his team ... then suddenly the player is found wanting under severe pressure when playing better opposition and what does the poster do ... he changes his mind, that's what.

He voices his disapproval of the player, mentioning his short comings, as an individual and what impact it had on the team. He's suddenly not so sure about this player anymore and says so.

That's called character. That's a guy I wanna debate with cause I value his input.

You no doubt take note of a superb performance by an individual you do not like and yet will continue bad mouthing him even though you know your criticism is unjust. You are one I do not wanna debate with cause I don't value your input.

A good rugby player is not one judged by different interpretations of the game as you may think. He is either a good rugby player or he isn't.

Get back in step, Mike.

I have never changed my mind inn respect of Alberts - have always expressed severe reservations about his mobility and all round game.   If Alberts could perform like Messam for instance - I would change my mind about him.  However, there is no likelihhod of that since he has not only physical problems - but all a lack of ball sense.  Ball sense is why McCaw is always at breakdown points earlier than other players and in some way why  our loosies arrive late.   Be it as it may - I regard Alberts as the forward equivalent of Francois Steyn as a backline player.

I have had reservations about the latter all along and was severely critical of him in the tests last year - and to date has not seen anything that would make me change my mind on him.   Saffex cannot stand my view on that one -  and I think you share my point of view on him.

Kolisi I have always regarded as a quota player - defective in about all aspects of loosie play.  A rare carry of balls - where he is bre aking a tackle or two - is just not good enough.   Only real - and not imaginary - performance will change my mind on that one.   I am ready to take the standard flak from Saffex for what I said here.

I am sorry we differ on Alberts.   On players like Steyn, Hougaard and Kolisi we are - I believe - in agreement.

We do not want a Messam ... we want an Alberts.

We don't need a Messam ... we need an Alberts.

I am happy we have an Alberts. He is an enforcer, an asset to our boys.

No way I would change him for anyone. He's a Bok ... not an All Black. He doesn't play like an All Black ... he plays like a Bok ... just the way I like it.

If you like the way the All Blacks play so much, go support them ... leave these Boks for us to cheer on. They're our team and he's an important part of it.

He was out injured for quite some time and has made his way back into the form we saw on Saturday.

You judged him and sentenced him on his first match after injury which I must say rather surprised me ... however at that stage in time I didn't know of your clouded perception and your love of fabrication.

I do now.
