I think that Coenie may be quite serious - they are waiting for the scan results and we will know more afterwards - but am nor sure about Goosen. If it was serious they would have sent him for a scan too - as far as I could make out from the newspaper reports that was not the case.
I looked at the Cheetahs website to see whether there are any mention of the injury to Goosen - and there is none. They obviously are anxious about Coenie and the scan issue - and is worried about Labuschagne as well. therefore waiting with their team announ cement until tomorrow to see whether Lappies can play.
I think they have given up om the availability of Rhule for this coming match.

Coenie is on his way back to SA to see a specialist - likely to be Dr Stefan Joubert - one of the best in the world. Really bad news.
He is beim g replaced in the squad by Rossouw de Klerk. No news about any other injured players on the Cheetahs website - most likely only niggles.

It's hard to imagine how even the strongest man can play prop forward with a compromised neck. I said at the time of his initial injury that he should give up the game, the downside seems too daunting. It's a miracle that Schalk has been able to continue, but flank isnt prop and Schalk was never an effective fetcher after his neck operation.
As for Goosen, it's a really sad situation for the young man, but it should not effect the Cheetahs too much.

There were some talk about a knee injury to Goosen - but there was no confirmation on the Cheetahs website and he was not sent for a scan. If there wer substance to that one - it would have been reported.

no surprises that goosen is injured, its really what hes known for.
i can remember some theories from the saffa posters here regarding jonah lomus kidney issues, even though there wasnt one shred of evidence to back up their claims.
so i ask now, could goosens taking of illegal substances during school be catching up with him today???
its either that or hes just a weak girl trapped in a weak boys body.

Goosen joins Cheetahs’ injured list
Coach Naka Drotske was set to name his squad yesterday for their second Super Rugby match on tour against the Reds in Brisbane on Friday, but with his injury worries growing to four players, he has postponed the team announcement until today.
Flyhalf Johan Goosen (knee) and prop Coenie Oosthuizen (neck) have been added to the list after there were initially only concerns over wing Raymond Rhule (ankle) and flanker Lappies Labuschagne (heel).
The situation regarding Goosen and Labuschagne seem to be slightly more positive with the prospects of them returning to training today, but Rhule and Oosthuizen could both miss the game.
It will create a scenario for Drotske where Willie le Roux will be moved back to wing to accommodate Hennie Daniller at fullback with Rayno Benjamin coming on to the bench, while Trevor Nyakane could start in the less familiar role of tighthead with Maks van Dyk added to the replacements.

danillier should of started anyway, there was a notable improvement against the rebels thanks to his contribution, albeit a small one.
cheetahs are doing it tough, especially with lappies and rhule out too.
nayakane is a good repalcement for coonie, but he is only efficient for 55mins at best before his large physique starts to get the better of him, similar to taumafuina and skelton.
when/if goosen recovers from this latest bout of injuries, i dont think their would be one person here who would wager that goosen would be injury free til the seasons end.
like brussouw, retaining top physical fitness at super rugby level is something they simply cannot do, shame as both have so much to offer their clubs and the Boks.

This is sad news re Coenie as he has had an extended run of being injury free when it comes to his neck
He might now be out for the rest of the season.......lets hope we see him back sooner, we need him, he is a special talent.......easily the most effective prop in the game
