De Kock Steenkamp is injured - so he is sent back to Cape Town. So who is to replace Steenkamp? Juan de Jongh is flown in.
De Jongh has been the worst defending center last year in Super 15 and brings zero to attacking play - or shall we say minus-zero.
This kind of idiocy has been noticeable in the Stormers for the past two years now and I am indeed surprised that he has the audacity to continue in this loony way. His next move should be a long stay at Valkenberg.
I feel sorry for AC...he was given a job a little beyond his potential...there are many good coaches that can coach well but there are few that can compete at the highest level.
The ingredient is focus, the ability is to see individuals potential (not public opinion), to know how to out class your opponent but the most important is to understand how to motivate players and use them to their full potential.
There are many nations that play rugby (outside the top 6) but there is huge love for this game where rugby is small...I think of particulary Georgia, Romania, Japan and Canada but the enthusiasm is infectious...rugby is a money making business and business has hidden agendas but for those who love the game not only for their country or side to win, it needs the best coaches, the most dedicated and skilled guys...it's certainly not easy...the biggest problem is time...it's a very short - lived career with huge pressures to either make the grade or bale out.
It's a lovely game and most men love it...in Russia where it is as as rare as hen's teeth it is starting to catch on...even Russian president Vladimir Putin was so intrigued with game during the NZ World Cup...a physical game that appeals to Russian masculi nity. But so small there but could be enormous according to Sean Fitzpatrick who ran clinics in St Petersburg in 2005.
Firing AC is perhaps the simplest answer but it's more than that...the players are loyal and he is a good man...should diplomatically be dismissed and Nic Mallet given the reigns...he is right for WP rugby...knows the territory well and is a good coach.
