There was a long article about coaches losing the dressing room in sport - various coaches and codes of sport were mentioned in the article in which it was clearly stated that Coetzee lost the dressing room.
That created a very serious deficiency from a psychological perspective. Players do not believe the talk and the game plan of the coach - there is no team leadership with Coetzee retaining Strauss as captain after the latter indicated his retirement - they find no leadership from the senior players in the team who also became disheartened in the process - they underperform and is careless in execution.
I think a major problem is that Coetzee will for financial reasons be kept on as coach - but that will just cause even worse performances by players - since there is no chance that he will find the lost dressing room - it just does not happen in reality in sport.
