Coetzee - the idiot speaks

"Saturday's 27-27 draw against the Wallabies in Bloemfontein was undoubtedly a poor result for the Springboks, but coach Allister Coetzee was trying his best to remain positive as the All Blacks loom.

Given South Africa's record against Australia at altitude - they have lost just one Test match in 54 years in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Bloemfontein - Saturday represented the perfect opportunity for the Boks to return to winning ways after that horrific 57-0 loss to the All Blacks in Albany. 

Instead, handling errors at crucial times as well as scrum problems and lateral running contributed to a performance that was rich in intent, but lacking in execution. 

In the end, the Boks had to rely on a long-range penalty from flyhalf Elton Jantjies 10 minutes from time to draw level. 

It means that the Boks are without a win in three, but Coetzee reckons he was pleased with what he saw from his charges on Saturday.

"It’s always difficult when you draw at home, it feels like a loss," he said after the match.

"But I’m very proud of this team and their effort tonight and the way we played after a tough two weeks. It shows the character in the side and that was tested.

"The way we got stuck in … there is no problem with our effort once again and no problem with the mindset and the way we want to play."

Coetzee added that the performance on Saturday went a long way towards getting the Boks over the scars of their Albany humiliation, and he suggested that his side was still very much on the roight path.

"We know that we created a lot of opportunities and that to me is a massive positive," he said.

"This team, in the process that we’re busy with, can feel that they were the better team at one stage than the Australians out there.

"“I know we have to win and we must win, but we are taking the right steps in the right direction."

There were, however, a couple of areas where Coetzee felt the Boks needed to be better.

"We always pride ourselves on our set piece and the discipline in the team … those were strengths of ours at the beginning of the season in the French series. It’s maybe not where it should be at the moment," he said.

"I’ll have to go and have a look at the breakdown because we got pinged there a couple of times and I saw the same picture on the other side."

The draw, the second between the sides in this year's Rugby Championship, means the Boks hold onto second sport on the tournament log, three points ahead of Australia, with one round of fixtures to go."

This idiot said that he is bringing in Louw to help out ioro breakdown ball protection and recovery.   Louw tried just once to do that and the result was a penalty.   He never really was at breakdown points and was the reason for that component of the game struggling.
Then there was some problems in scrumming - serious at best.   He sele4cted two of the worst scrummagers in the country at Tight Head and then would not accept that the scrumming went to pieces as a result.
The man is almost as clueless as some of our members - so the arrival of Erasmus may put him in his place and make him even a bigger dummy than he is at present.

 

 
Regarding Dreyer ... he was clearly over extending himself. Why he didn't correct that is beyond me. He is a powerful scrummager and has a good technique. He just needed to make a slight adjustment and he would have been fine.

Hamburger Nyakane is a loosehead picked on the wrong side ... not that he's any good on the loosehead side either. One of many quotas.

We lost the breakdown against the All Blacks because we had a blindside flank playing on the openside. Coetzee thought it wise to bring another blindside flank in to correct this ... so he chose the elderly Louw as our saviour. As expected ... it didn't work. How could it? He's an elderly blindside flank ... loooooooooooong past his best.

We're supposedly building toward the 2019 WC ... right? ... so how come we're bringing in the tired and the elderly ... who by my astute calculations will only be a lot more tired and a lot more elderly in 2 years time??

It's one stupid decision followed by another ... and by yet another ... and so it carries on with Quota Coetzee.

I found his ""The way we got stuck in … there is no problem with our effort once again" ... rather amusing. Having 15 headless chickens running around aimlessly can also be referred to as them putting effort in ... doesn't mean that anything positive will come of it though. It's wasted energy ... energy spent on the wrong things ... without any kind of leadership to guide them because he's too busy with his usual off the ball stuff. 

Call that leadership?

As I said above ... one poor decision ... followed by another ... and another ... and another.

Tottie doesn't know what to do any more. He was hopeful but that's all been dashed ... and now the only thing left is an assortment of excuses.

Wake up idiot. Dreyer is a proven flop- and was penalized at scrum time more than another prop in SuperRugby. When he left the pitch- the scrummaging improved right away. Nykana did a much better job than this midget prop

Hey CC you are confusing Dreyer with Redlinghuys who is a really good scrummager. Dreyer HAS NEVER BEEN A  DECENT SCRUMMAGER - he get around the park well but his scrumming is weak and this was evident in the Super comp as well.Louw is a blindside flank that plays to the ball.  Put in the Du Preez twins and Kolisi to play out wide etc. Wilco Louw is a tad slow but can srum. I think I would start with him.Play Allende and Combrinck as well. Tighten up a bit and pound them in the forwards a bit more. BUT don' t stop running at them either.Unfortunately the personnel changes will not all materialise although surely Dreyer who was the weakest link has to go.

 
Disagree, BeanDip. His selection to the Boks was based on his Super rugby season. He contributed greatly to our (Lions) success these last two seasons. A little tweak to Dreyer and he'll do just fine.  

Flo doesn't play to the ball. We saw that again yesterday. He's a ball carrier. Always has been.

If Kolisi is to play out wide ... and the twins are to come in at 7 and 8 ... who did you have in mind to contest the breakdown?

The props primary function is at the set piece. Everything else comes after. I too would bring Wilco Louw in at 3.

 CC I would be happy for Dreyer to succeed as he contributes outside the scrum. However having watched him against better scummagers he has fallen short. Fix it up but do it fast!Flow does play to the ball and i heard has effected a lot of T/O ball for Bath. Somebody maybe able to corroborate that. He has always had this ability. But better at 7 as he lacks the pace for an opensider.Kolisi at 6 may present a few problems but also some pluses. The re emergence of Chilli Boy also shows Coetzee is not building a squad of winners.  I honestly can't see how  we can mount a serious and sustained challenge to the wee abs in these awful circumstances.  An occasional win may be possible as we don't have to be 100% to win.  All we can look forward to is our commentators lauding the wee abs and suggesting we cant expect to win against them as they are too good for our wee boy. How the heck have we come to this deplorable state of affairs. As we all should know there are many reasons; many of which could be solved if the will was there. It is only the drainage of players overseas that is really problematic but even here some creativity would help.
