Let's get real. We lost good players and we recruited two duds. The team is hardly recognizable from a few years back.....and is in effect very weak in terms of players. Crucially we don't have a S15 level flyhalf and I can't imagine either of our rotating scrummies making any other s15 team. That's how bad it is.
When Jean, Schalk who was a revelation and Etzebeth get back we will be better. Etzebeth in particular has carried the team in it's big matches....he is a dominant player. His loss doomed the team this year....his return last year lifted the team.
Under these difficult circumstances and the fact that we have played our 4 games overseas.....return of a few key players will lift results. But this year we simply didn't have the players in key positions...... fullback, flyhalf, scrumhalf, hooker.....you can't build a credible campa ign with those gaps.
