The following from Planet Rugby:-
"SARU have recruited Cheetahs coach Franco Smith and Lions defence specialist JP Ferreira to the Springboks coaching staff for the end-of-year tour.

The duo was added at the request of Bok coach Allister Coetzee, SARU confirmed in a statement on Thursday.

SA Rugby kicking specialist, Louis Koen, will also join the four-match tour, which features Tests against England, Italy and Wales and opens with a match against the Barbarians at Wembley on November 5.

The appointments were confirmed during the SA Rugby Coaches’ Indaba in Cape Town on Wednesday and Thursday. The trio will assemble with the Springbok squad and management in Johannesburg next week.

Smith will be involved in backline play and skills while Ferreira takes responsibility for defence. Ferreira succeeds Chean Roux, who had filled the role on a temporary basis for the Rugby Championship following the departure of Jacques Nienaber to Munster.

Jurie Roux, SA Rugby CEO, said: “There have been a number of meetings with the Springbok coach following the Rugby Championship. His request was that he needed more expertise in certain areas.

“We have added to the management’s strength for this tour and the situation will be reassessed by the Springbok Coach at the conclusion of the season.

“I’d like to thank the Cheetahs and Lions for their whole-hearted support of our request – which shows the spirit of collaboration that has been highlighted by the indaba,” said Roux.

Coetzee said: “Both Franco and JP are experienced coaches at Super Rugby and Currie Cup level. They are both hardworking and well respected individuals. They will fit in well with the current management and I am convinced that they will add value.”

Lions CEO Rudolf Straeuli said: “We support SA Rugby’s decision to appoint JP (Ferreira) for the end of year tour, as we believe that he can add value. He has been a stalwart for the union for the last nine years through some tough times."

Ferreira was overwhelmed with the opportunity that came his way. “I am nervous and excited at the same time. It is like a dream come true to work with the Springboks, even if it is only for four weeks.

“As a young boy my dream was to become a Springbok. It did not happen as a player, but I kept my dream alive by deciding to become a coach. Over the past nine years at the Lions I have had the opportunity to work with dedicated and passionate coaches like Eugene Eloff, Jake White, Dick Muir, John Mitchell and Johan Ackermann, all of whom taught me the knowledge, skills and values I apply to my own coaching philosophy.

“Thanks to Johan who had the confidence to appoint me as a defense coach. My dream is being achieved as a coach and I can only thank God for His blessing. I would also like to thank the Lions for affording me the opportunity. I am both humbled and grateful,” Ferreira said.

The Springbok squad for the tour will be announced following the Currie Cup final in Bloemfontein on Saturday."

This must be terrible news for the Mozart Dunce in Chief - he hates both the Lions and the Cheetahs with a vengeance.

It's a step in the right direction - but a minor one nonetheless...
With Stick and Coetzee still in there, their influence will be greatly limited.

Now for more sackings!

POOF what am I going to do about all your lies. You are the chap who is always predicting the Boks are going to lose, most recently against Oz. I have nothing against the Lions or the Cheetahs, nor against their coaches....I simply dont think their game plan is going to work for the Boks. That doesnt mean the Boks defence couldnt benefit from the Lions defensive coach, hell he could scarcely do worse. Nor does that mean Franco couldnt add some zip to our back play. You argue like a provincial political hack.

 Mozart
I lost count of the number of threads  started by you criticizing the Lions and also the Cheetahs started by you over the last year.   The attack has been all out with rubbish comments often without substance or so slanted by you it represents outright lies.
Taking into account there is no way you ever wrote a favourable comment on this site about the Lions one has to come to a reasonable conclusion that I stated above.   You also criticized the Cheetahs in the past and only last week went for V enter at center claiming he is too slow - why you support Fat Fransie, by some distance slower than most other centers.

Oh really.....read this Poof Actually I would try all the flavour of the day Lions June 14, 2016, 13:50:48 Simply because what we saw out there on Saturday wasn't a team. It was a collection of players based on nothing. There is no core to the team. The only way in this short time. To build a team is to base it to some extent on one of our franchises. We have often done this with the Bools....only the Lions fit the bill right now. Secondly if we don't try these players now, when do we try them? Normally I'm for winning matches, but we don't want another 4 years with team controversies....throw them in the water, let's see who swims. Given our poor Super performance there will be more time for the team to gel before the RC if some of these changes have to be reversed. Thirdly it will rev up Ellis Park and what better venue to debut for Lions players. Let's go for broke, if we lose the series....so what? We are in transition and experimenting. So play this team: Willie Combrink Mapoe Janse van Rensburg Mvovo Jantjies Faf Redlinghuis Marx Beast Etzebeth Stephanie Kriel Louw Whiteley And if it all flops we can put our best shot for the RC in for next week, but at least the air will have been cleared. And there is just a chance this may work. Edit post 0 Likes

Based on what's been hapenning, this would be my personal changes to that lineup:

- Mapoe to Allende (Venter)
- Mvovo to Rhule
- Jantjes to Pollard (Goosen)
- Louw to PSDT*
- Whiteley to Vermeulen
- PSDT to de Jager

*
It seems odd having a lock there but that might very well be a good tactic with Kriel on the park...as long as there are no decent flankers around, PSDT is a reasonable choice, and despite the size he's actually very mobile.

What would be your changes to the lineup? I would love to know your suggestions!

Calm down guys! This is just a rugby forum, no need to get under each other's skins

You have different views, so what? At least you can agree to disagree...that's something!

Would Rhule be considered a quota if he is not from South Africa? He is from Kenya or something

I don't know...but he's playing for the Cheetahs for a good 3-4 years, so hopefully his certificate of residence must be in check by now !

This is a prime example of why having NZ coaches all pulling in the same direction to benefit both the Super and national team works so well.No arguments between the national and super coaches about player management or training .And the players can step straight into a familiar environment and continue to play as they were taught to in their Super teams with nothing to unlearn all ready to slot right in .Notice the huge difference in playing style from one SA team to the next .as compared to all NZ teams playing much the same brand of footy ?On a lighter note the fact that all NZ Super teams have won the title makes beendorks assertion that NZ loads up teams to the detriment of other Kiwi teams look pretty moronic .

NZ really knows how to manage players...so far they're being able to contain the overseas exodus. Oz and SA have been much more ripped apart, but that's because they're too flexible about it!

I would lock with Willemse/Snyman and Etzebeth. For the rest I have no idea if any of our younger loosies are test class. Stephanie is tempting at 7, but he is actually not very agile in open field....way less agile than Matfield was. If we want a lock at 7 Elstadt might be a better bet.

Raymond Rhule is from Ghana... quite strange...a soccer country...where rugby is virtually unheard of but that's beside the point...he's a very good wing whose current form is good.

Quacky I reckon the Bok management has to bite the bullet and only select those willing to play in SA .You may at the least get those in it for something other than money and give someone who hasnt been knobbled by playing in the NH a look in .The ABs have let guys like Tuipolotu go and taken the hit for long term gain ,and I see the NH squeezers are trying to tempt Dagg and Cruden with mountains of cash.Sucks seeing talent from NZ ,SA and Oz being poached by gits with wodges of cash who have contributed nothing to the development of these blokes .
