Ruan Combrinck injured his shoulder while playing for the Kintetsu Liners last weekend and will return to South Africa for surgery.
The utility back will therefore be unavailable for the Springboks' end-of-year tour and won't be able to play for the Barbarians as planned.
Combrinck was recently snubbed by Bok coach Allister Coetzee, who said he hadn't had enough game time in 2017.
