My guess is that if Wiese has a good game for the Boks this weekend, that could be the difference between winning and losing for the Boks.

The Springbok back row was well beaten at the breakdown in the 2nd half. Their contribution in the air was also poor. The Lions pack established physical domination, winning more rucks and collisions.

Duane Vermeulen is the most influential player on the pitch in terms of the Bok game plan under Rassie/Nienaber.
He organises the defence, takes the high ball, in addition to all-around back row play like turnovers and carries.
He is like Matfield in the pitch - a semi coach.

If Jasper can play for the Boks like he does for Leister, he could be a new Springbok great in the making. He is strong, but will he be able to translate this into a test level performance

A far far better option than little Kwagga but I’m not convinced he is the answer Give me Dan du Preez or Marcel Coetzee

We can’t give you Marcel Coetzee the odds say he’s injured.

That is true, he spends his life injured He was my second choice behind Dan I’d also be happy with Jaco Coetzee, Elrigh Louw or Vincent Tshituka ahead of Wiese

My reservation with Wiese is that he might not be the complete package, at least not yet. He is a strong ball carrier and very good at getting over the advantage line, but not the same tactical brain of an international test player- like Vermeulen.

As a number 8, he needs to be able to link with the backs and make offloads in the tackle. He also needs to compete on the ground.

Hopefully, he gets the opportunity to run onto the ball at pace against the Lions so the Boks can get go forward and dominate collisions.

His tackling can be ferocious, so hopefully, he makes his presence felt and helps the Boks dominate the ruck line.

Marcel is held together by bandages. When he plays at test level, he seems even more injury prone.
