It belongs to the law of unintended consequences. Back in the 1980s, when the hole in the ozone layer was the world’s number-one environmental problem, few people worried about global warming. So when nations signed the Montreal Protocol in 1987 – which aimed to save the ozone layer by banning ozone-eating chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) from use in aerosols, refrigerators and air-conditioning units – few questioned the idea that ozone-friendly hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) would make a great substitute. But although HFCs did not destroy the ozone layer, they were potent greenhouse gases. After almost 30 years, and with the manufacture of HFCs rising globally by 7 per cent each year, that mistake is about to be put right. Last November in Dubai, signatories to the 29-year-old Montreal Protocol agreed in principle to amend the agreement to outlaw HFCs. At a meeting in Vienna, Austria, on Friday, they begin the task of setting targets and timetables for doing that. The task is urgent. HFCs, like CFCs, are inert gases that make good coolants in refrigeration systems and propellants in aerosols. But molecule for molecule, some HFCs are up to 10,000 times more potent than carbon dioxide as greenhouse gases, according to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). The current rapid growth in manufacture of HFCs leaves the world on course for an extra 0.5 °C of global warming by the turn of the century, according to UNEP. Curbs on carbon dioxide emissions were agreed in Paris last December, but HFCs, which were left out of that deal, could be responsible for a third or more of future warming.

So the concensus of 1987 is now going to cause a third or more of future warming....think these guys really have all the answers. Think we should let them seed the atmosphere to prevent future warming? So far the solutions for the lukewarming, much of which is from other sources.....are the following. ...................... 1 Electric cars which save 20% of the energy but produce 5 times the heavy metals and where is all the electricity going to come from....this heavily subsidised solution entails a massive rotation in the whole energy system which would take decades. 2 Biomass which is detroying farming and food production in the States and only works with heavy biomass such as Brazilian sugar cain. 3 Wind farms which destroy birds including eagles and add unpredictable high cost energy, which has to be twinned with oil or hydro based systems, because they can't really store effectively. .............. What isn't on the list .....nuclear. The one thing that produces clean energy with a very positive greenhouse result has been ripped out of Europe, as a result of the catastrophic Japanese quake and power plant breach. A circumstance that hardly applies to Europe. ........... The safest, cleanest energy source deep sixed.....but scientists are salivating to lace the atmosphere with chemicals. ............... Nutty is an understatement.

The planet will look after itself.....the carbon units not withstanding.

Global warming, for the most, is a scam.  There are too many inconsistencies and silly stuff - like the ban / tax on cow farts in California. Silly really.

Ninety Seven percent of scientists surveyed prefer getting grants vs no grants and prefer not having their kids and wives snubbed or worse. Surprised?

Come again. Imagine the 97% Concensus Scientist Group told us they had to fix the Ozone problem.....but in the process they created a greenhouse gas 10000 times more potent than CO2. Clever chaps these boffins.

I've seen this word "concensus" (sic) used on here quite a lot lately and I was wondering if it was some new and mysterious word, maybe a clever pun or perhaps a witty portmanteau . . . but no, nothing as exotic as that . . . I see it's simply the word that very stupid and uneducated people use instead of "consensus" . . . even after someone  puts up a pic with the word spelled correctly!

LMAO!

"Sonny Bill you cannot copy and paste articles that include all the graphics as it screws up the thread."

Ummm . . .  I think Sonny Bill knows this.

Am I the only one who remembers this same Sonny Bill loser trying to destroy ou Maaik's weekly team sheets and always pretending it was a mistake?

You with insight probably know who he is...a malevolent twisted personality...who scrapes at gnats and swallows elephants...thinks he's clever but has zero ability to think...a human automaton that works in an office, frustrated and cornered in the cesspool and jail of suburb anised Johannesburg...a hypocrite and insecure creep like a Dickens character, Uriah Heep with ill intent. Has no true friends and hates himself and goodness but at times appears as a sheep but in wolves clothing. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to uncover this creature.

I remember that this fake Sonny Bill and the fact that he screwed up the thread but he may be a poor chap who needs things explained simply. Let's hope he proves he isn't a moron & fixes the threads he messed up.
