Well done Chris Froome, Yellow Jersey winner of the 2013 Tour de France. Froome rode like a champion, conducted himself like a champion and yesterday, when he stood on the podium and dedicated his victory to his late mother who never saw him fulfil his dreams, he spoke like a champion. A great victory in what proved to be a great 100th Tour.
The 2013 Tour de France saw a changing of the guard. Old timers like Cadel Evans, Alberto Contador, Andy Schleck and Andreas Kloden have been supplanted by a new young wave of riders and for the next few years it will the likes of Chris Froome, Nairo Quintana, Michal Kwiatkowski and Andrew Talansky battling it out in the General Classification.
Even among the sprinters it looks like Mark Cavendish has finally lost his invincible aura and Marcel Kittel looks poised to become the next dominant sprinter of the Tour . . . although I can't see anyone rivalling Peter Sagan for the Green Jersey any time soon. Sagan may not be the fastest but his consistency over almost any kind of terrain is truly remarkable!
I miss the Tour already! Another 347 days before the world's greatest race starts again, this time in Yorkshire, England.
