Surely during his camp it would have become clear how many of the twelve rounds he'd be good for. It must also have been obvious that Mayweather was fine for twelve of twelve.
If it was clear that Connor would lose if the fight went on for more than say eight rounds, then surely the only way for him to win would be to target a round earlier than eight and throw everything into it. 
At some point in the fourth Conner had Mayweather on the ropes and seemed to poised to unleash yet backed off. For my money that missed opportunity was his best shot at winning. 
Obviously Mayweather was likely to win but I'd have liked to see  McGregor really take it to him and turn it into a slug fest. Instead he tried to outbox a superbly defensive boxer and negated his own best tool. I wonder if McGregor though he could win a points decision. Lol. Pity.
Well I'm sure he's crying into his $100M as I type this.

 Wonder if Mayweather would take Connnor on no holds barred. That is a fight Conner would win. I see a report Connor made 70 million dollars so even though he could not be expected that he would win he appears to have come out injury free and with a lot of boodle in the bank.

I don't like boxing much, but I follow UFC religiously. Man vs man (or woman vs woman) they can employ whatever type of fighting style they like as long as it is not dirty. They fight and the better fighter wins. Nobody is forcing them to fight, and they get paid decent money to do so. Only Beans can somehow think sanctioned fighting a perversion, but will happily turn a blind eye when priests bugger little boys.

These are just some sports, that have more injuries, concussions, brain damage or death, per annum, than boxing.

There are a lot of sick people out there paying to see these injuries or deaths hey Beeno

 Your language is a bit strong but I understand your point of view Beeno. Combat sports do appeal to some blood lusting part of our caveman brain. Certainly I'm not qualified to answer answer as to whether boxing or MMA are viable in an ethical world. 
As Blo says, nobody is forcing fighters into a cage. We don't lop the losers head off. While most fighters don't earn millions, one has to remember that the discipline required to compete has saved many an otherwise criminal from a lowlife existence. That in itself is a reward not only to the individual but also to the larger community. 
I'm pro choice, in all things. So for me any individual should able to choose their pois on and deal with the consequences or rewards as they come. 
As much as I dislike Mayweather, I rewatched his battle with Ricky Hatton and man he counter punched Hatton into oblivion.
