Crockett to retire at n of Super Rugby Season

"All Black prop Wyatt Crockett announced his international retirement on Tuesday and said this season would be his last with Super Rugby champions the Crusaders. 

The 35-year-old has earned 71 Test caps since his debut in 2009, including a role in New Zealand's successful 2015 World Cup campaign. 

He has also made more Super Rugby appearances than any other player in the competition, running out for his 188th Crusaders' match last Saturday. 

"It is never an easy thing to know when the time is right, but my family have made a number of sacrifices over the past 13 years which have allowed me to live out my dream," he said. 

"Now it's time for me to give back to them, simply by being there more than I have been able to as a professional rugby player." 

Crockett said he would remain in New Zealand after leaving the Crusaders and had signed a two-year contract with Tasman in the domestic Mitre 10 Cup."

During the past four years this guy got progressively worse insofar as scrumming is concerned and in the end was a joke.   A top class player who did damage to his reputation by staying beyond his sell-by date.   

Crocked was a chronically illegal scummager who specialized in right angle scrumming allowed by bent down under refs

With the advent of Louw he saw his days would be filled with pain if he stayed on.

So we wish him well and a long retirement where he will have time to reflect on all his short comings!

Crockett is now 35 and the best age for a prop is around 29-34,... the usual retirement date for a prop is from 35, which is what he's going to do from international and Super Rugby level, to just play NPC at home, Tasman... and  the last 4 years he's been an AB,... do you think he was damaging his reputation playing around 40 times for the AB in those last 4 years? really?

but you both surely know better than Mike Cron, the scrum guru, or Steve Hansen who both said last year that Crockett was still one of the bests scrummagers in the world and the best in NZ,... ask Laulala and the chiefs' front row whose scrum was destroyed twice by Crockett last saturday
