Crusaders Management openly admit to cheating

Stormers captain Jean de Villiers says he will alert match referee Craig Joubert to any foul tactics the Chiefs may use in their Super Rugby match in Hamilton on Friday.

Last week, the Stormers were victims of off-the-ball 'holding' by the Crusaders, and De Villiers felt it was time to pay special attention to the problem which has gone largely unpunished.

Flank Schalk Burger was singled out by Crusaders players, who held a firm grip on his jersey when he was not in possession of the ball at rucks and loose scrums.

"It is a very tough thing (holding) to handle, and you want to keep the game clean," De Villiers said on Wednesday.

"So either the ref needs to do something about it or we (players) need to do something about it, and then it can get messy."

De Villiers, who will earn his 100th Super Rugby cap on Friday, said he would bring the topic to the attention of Joubert before the match.

"I am definitely going to speak to Craig about it and I can tell you that I am going to be hard on his case throughout the game," he said.

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee said he had been told, after the match last week, that holding was a common tactic.

"When I chatted with the Crusaders management after the game they admitted the off-the-ball stuff around the ruck was a tactic they've adopted," Coetzee said.

"They were open about it and said the Chiefs used the same tactics against them. We know it is going to happen again this week and we hope that the referee and his officials will sort it out. 

So the Chie(f)ts are now even worse than the Crusaders.

"I will definitely talk to Craig Joubert about it before the game. Who is going to deal with it if the officials do not?"

De Villiers said bagging his 100th Super Rugby cap would not be a focal point ahead of Friday's match.

"Nothing really changes for me. It is not like I never get the opportunity to run out in front of the team – I do that every week as the captain," he said.

"We are at a stage where we have to win and there is a lot of pressure on us to get the result.

"This is a must win game for us, and we are playing against the champions on their home field."

 You see Sharkbok there is a very unhealthy culture in kiwi rugby - they are all cheating and so everyone has to cheat. Then they try the same thing against sides from outside NZ. Their rational being other nz sides do it.Dismal stuff from the kiwis. Imagine your defence against a cheating charge being another kiwi side does it. Oh who would want to be a kiwi!!  
The amusing thing will be to see ou warped DUD and 3 IQ trying to explain this away as is their custom when faced with these most inconvenient truths.

It sounds pretty spot on to me.Everyone could see what they did...if the Nzl'ders here could not then that speaks for itself. this sort of stuff doesnt belong in rugby.Each of those players should have been yellow carded.Its a professional foul,like a deliberate knock down.Instead it was a mere penalty. But the question is...WHAT DO WE REALLY EXPECT?

as for that holding back players and what have u, every team does it or has done it, ref should be onto it and if u watch the game again, the ref in the stormers crusaders match was on it penalising the crusaders for that indiscretion.

the cheetahs jean cook did it on the fuglistaller duriong a scrum the other week, and when fuglistaller retaliated, he was yellow carded.
holding back players is a practise that i have seen all teams do, its not just in the breakdowns, but that is where the bulk of the kiwis and OZ teams for that matter apply the illegal practice.
thats not to say the saffas dont do the same thing cos they do, but admittedly no where near as much as their SANZAR counterparts.
am i surprised that there was zero chatter here from the saffas when their teams do it??? no, whinging like a bitch is only applicable when ur teams are the victims, not the offenders.

players need to do what burger did in the match, swing wildly and break the hold, that way the ref can at least see something happening.
worst case scenario the ref will keep a closer eye in the area, or the best outcome is what happened when crusaders owen franks was penalised.

SA players, and teams, need to WAKE UP!! Push the bloody limits a little bit like your counter parts do. Quit trying to be this "knight in shining armor". Get your hands a little dirty and start pushing that line. Maybe you'll start winning a little more.

The idea that SA rugby players don't push the limits & are pure as the driven snow is a myth. Check out any game.

But Kiwis, especially Kiwis, seem to "manage" the refs, the game, and the breakdowns much better. When the SA's "cheat" it's as subtle as a brick to the face.

 The kiwis are masters of gamesmanship.
