In the wake of the Christchurch mosque shootings, the Crusaders are considering a name change.

In a way it will be a pity because of the legacy of the mighty Crusaders who are without question the most dominant and successful Super Rugby franchise of all time but one does have to admit that it was probably a stupid choice of name in the first place, considering the negative connotation that Muslims have for the word.

Back in 1996 when the name was chosen, the other serious candidate was "The Plainsmen" so I would guess that is the favourite if there is to be a name change. Not sure it inspires the same kind of fear and respect that the Crusaders have built up over the years. Any other suggestions from our Kiwi friends . . . or anyone else? How about "The Canterbury Globalists"? Baboon-ou would love that!

PS I wonder if there will be a name change for Saracens in the UK as well . . . and what about the Red Cross?

The name is pretty controversial given its violent globalist past to try force Christianity on the rest of the world. Beeno Scumbags

Wonder how long the nz PM spent in front of a mirror when putting on her hijab.

Europe defended itself against many attack from the muslims. Charles Martel won the famous battle of Potiers in 732 saving Europe from muslim conquest.

The haka is hilarious. Seeing wee beau barret trying look fierce is side splitting stuff! Hahahahhaahhahahaha cracks me up every time.

CC the Globalist plan to destroy Western Civilisation is precisely because its Judeo/Christian roots produce free democracies. They hate both Christians and the Jews. As we have seen by the rabid anti semiticism in the UK Labour Party and the US demonrats. Eight UK Labour Party MPs have departed as they cant abide the anti semiticsm. A new Jewish walk away movement from the demonrats has been formed.

Face facts here - if the muslims in NZ insist on a name change it will happen as nz lack any real backbone right now as their heads filled with globalist MSM propaganda. My guess though is they will lie low and work on increasing their numbers via immigration lawyers etc.

I wonder ... would "The Jihadists" be an acceptable alternative ... ??

Something else ... I saw SBW's clip ... is he a Muslim?

Is New Zealand a Muslim state? They seem to have a lot of sway over there.

This thread wasn't really intended to discuss whether the Crusaders should change their name or not, it was more about suggestions for a new name if it did happen.
So far we have the following:
The Canterbury PlainsmenThe Caliphate CrumpetsThe Canterbury Globalists
Based on Baboon-ou's post above, how about the South Island Scaredy Cats . . . or his post above that . . . the Hijab Haka?

Klown, yes, Sonny Bill is a Muslim . . . hence me calling him "Sunni Bill" some months ago and schoolteacher Moffie completely missing the joke and having one of his pedantic and humourless moans about my spelling.

LMAO!

We'll add the Canterbury Jihadists as a new name option.

You go back very far in history -  there were much later onslaughts on European countries than that.   Take for instance the wars between the Russians and the Turks and Persians in th e 15th century - where after two victories they freed 60 000 Russian slaves in Kazan and closed the biggest slave market ever in the whole of Europe.

Then there was the attack on Vienna in 1583 eventually repulsed by the King of Poland and the Austrian Army,   The Turks threatened to overrun not only the Balkans - but the whole of central Europe.

My problem is that whatever the Muslims may claim as atrocities against them - there are historically twice as many atrocities caused by the Muslims.   Go back to the hundreds of thousands of Christian residents in Armenia murdered  by Turks only a 100 years ago.

Look at what happened to the Kurds and other minorities in Iraq, Syria and Turkey in recent years - to the regular attacks on Coptic churches in Egypt  and he continuing attacks on Coptic  Christians costing thousands of lives.

The answer should be NO - go and practice what you want us to do now in countries run by Muslims and we may consider that suggestion.   .

The Crusaders combined probably had  armies totaling 5000 soldiers in three Crusades and the killing of people were in fact small in modern terms.   The story became a catchword  of the radical Muslims used as a reason for attacks on Christians,

I wrote above what happened in Europe over the past 600 years and it is not a nice story,   If the Crusaders  during the Crusade killed 10 000 it is no comparison what the Muslims did to other people since then.   They killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people - especially in Europe and Africa and enslaved millions of people.   Nobody will ever make the claim public - that slavery is still practiced widely in Muslim countries.

Are those the people to describe to others what should be done in countries like NZ, Australia,  Europe  and the Americas?   Even in Africa where a mere 20 years ago 200 000 innocents were  killed by the Jihadist President of Sudan using the army and Muslims to do the killing.

Sorry - but this is a story never to be considered by NZ.    .

Have to say, it's a bit ironic when the PC brigade can't cope with the name Crusaders but the city itself is called "Christchurch".
If a city called "Allahmosque" had a rugby team you'd almost expect it to be called "Saracens".

I have m any Muslim friends and have great regard for them - they will never come up with demands like changing names like discussed here.   In 2000 I had to give a  presentation at an international conference in Bremen, Germany.    There I met the Mayor of Hebron after 22 school children were shot in their school play yards by Israeli soldiers 14 days earlier.   I was nearly in tears when I met and commiserate with him.

I am all for peace and friendship - I always sympathize with the helpless under such conditions.  I was really upset by the more or less 800 000 civilians killed in Iraq when the US manufactured stories of weapons of mass destruction and I condemned that as well.

Be it as it may - the changing of a rugby team would be of no value in that situation.   There should be gestures on both sides to ensure that peace remains - there are people that would not accept it.  It is not only certain political parties to blame - it is the radicals on both side that should be dealt with,

Poor Cloudster still can't get it. Yet again we tell this confused woman that we don't applaud the killings but warn against the islamification of Nz or any country. Muslims are always peaceful when few in number. They will work on those numbers day in and day out. It's called Jihira.

Watch the movie The Promise.....about the Armenian genocide. Fifty percent of the Armenians were killed......incredibly the Turkish Army shelled defenseless women and children trapped on a mountain. These were people who didn't share the Islamic faith. The Crusaders went to 'free' the Holy Lands and there are many documented atrocities. But the motivation to do so developed because those same Holy Lands had been brutally conquered by the Moslems two centuries before and the Turks were threatening Constantinople. The Crusaders were a military force of the time.....brutal, uncompromising and vindictive. What did they think when they called them the Crusaders.....John Cleese would come riding in on a nicely liveried horse? Watch The Promise......large parts of Islam have not moved on despite all hand wringing about Islamophobia.

They should change the name to The Kafirs.

If they really wanted to appease Islam then then they may as well call themselves what Muslims already call them.

No Cloudy

In the Koran all non-believers are called kafirs - the designation became part of the Dutch language in the Cape brought in by Mulims the Dutch sent from  what is today Indonesia and Malaysia to the then Cape Colony.

There were other slaves from what is today Mozambique. Madagaskar and Angola also sent to o the Cape.   Those slaves were called "kafirs"   by the Muslims in the Cape,   The original residents of the area to the west of Port Elizabeth were the Khoi-San people.   Thr ough the eighteenth century the mixed population in the Cape generally started to inter-marry and the fact is that by 1800 there were only what is today classified as Whites and Coloureds in the said area,  There were in fact very few people with pure White ancestry  in the Cape - the lighter coloured  people were regarded as Whites - the darker coloured as Colourds.  The Black slaves from African areas  became part of the Coloured community.   I myself have khoi San ancestors even though today I am classified as a White,

It was only by about 1760 that the first Boer farmers came into contact with Blacks in the Fish River area.   They then as non-believers in Christianity became  known as kafirs even though the word was spelt slightly differently.

The Dutch were for that time fairly liberal - they did not regard marriage with other race groups as a detriment.   The Cape Governor Simon van der Stel's mother was a Bengali from India and so was his wife.   The favoured wives for most men in the 1700's in the Cape was from the Far East or local Khoi-San residents.   There were very few Dutch women sent to the Cape to marry settlers - hence the rather mixtures of races making up the Western Cape residents by the time the English  finally took over the Colony in 1806.   The language spoken was a mixed language of European (mainly Dutch and Flemish) , Far Eastern, Khoi-San and African  languages that today is called Afrikaans,

There was obviously a later problem that developed by the use of the ancent Muslim name for Blacks and it became part of the freedom struggle against apartheid.

Be it as it may - all non-Muslims are in Islamic terminology Kafirs - so if you are a Christian, Jew or Atheist - you are automatically called by devout Muslims a "kafir".   They may not call you that to your face - but fact is in their religion you are one irrespective of  race or origin a "kafir".

OMG Cloudy...

Did you just suggest that we change our team's name to the K word?

Kafir...with one "F" is a word used by Muslims to denote non Muslims.

The word you used is the SA equivalent of the N word.

Would you suggest that an American team change their name to The N!$@&#s?

Personally, I think you should apologise to the board for your clearly hateful and racist suggestion.

More name suggestions from this article:

Pegasus: Christchurch-centric without much significance to the remainder of the Crusaders region. Taking its inspiration from Pegasus Bay, the Pegasus tag would resonate with the people of Canterbury and continue the horse theme, but is it strong enough for a rugby team? Maybe not.

H?mana (salmon): A symbol of the braided rivers that cut through the Canterbury Plains. Known for their fight and determination with a flashy exterior, the traits of the H?mana (salmon) sum up the spirit and flamboyant style of the Crusaders. Difficult to say if it would catch on with fans.

Knights: The easiest re-brand. Would allow the club to keep some of their identity but remove the Crusaders' tag. The issue is it is the name of the Crusaders development teams and it's not the most inspiring of monikers. The safe but uninspiring option.

Pounamu: M?ori see the stone as having spiritual powers to evoke strength and prosperity, to protect, express love and kinship, and to depict growth and harmony. It's perfect in meaning but does not roll off the tongue and would be a tough sell for any sports team. But there are plenty of sports team called Diamonds, so why not?

Stallions: Continuing the horse theme: Strong, stylish and dominant. Stallions ticks many boxes but its is rather generic and holds little connection to the Crusaders region. A simple alternative could be the Colts.

Mustangs: Yet another horse theme with little reference to the Crusaders region but does offer the opportunity to keep some resemblance to the Crusaders. A strong name with character.

Here is another article where the chairman of the original Crusaders back in 1996 expressed reservations about the name.

The poor weak kneed kiwis right now are looking ripe for take over. They have a PM strutting about in a sharia law required hijab.

If these Muslims want the Crusaders to change their name it will be changed to something like the Mohammedian's Chargers so Muslims will feel included. Likewise Christchurch could become Mohammedmosque for the same noble reasons.

The poor nz jelly babies will doubtless try to outdo each other to show how supposedly virtuous they are and to show how keen the are to be under Muslim rule.

Poor Cloudy is still trying to smear those opposing the islamification of Nz and other countries as approving mass murder. How low do you go.

Well done to Mike for pointing out it is a Quoranic term for a non Muslim. The very ignorant Cloudy should acqaint herself with what the Quoran teaches as to the treatment of infidels. She really needs to do this.

Cloudy must realize in their eyes she is an infidel kafir woman who must be brought into SUBMISSION to Sharia Law. Unfortunately Cloudy has shown she is a fully compliant captive of globalist propaganda. She will make excuses for Islam just like her globalist MSM handlers do. In short she will accept anything they propose including a Muslim takeover by who she is convinced are these peaceful fine Muslim people. Quite amazing a person could be so lead to their own destruction - a veritable turkey calling for Christmas!!! A true kiwi bird brain.

Actually the picture is not this bleak. I am sure NZ has some patriots and that more will patriots will emerge as the nz oaks break free from globalist propaganda. The hard lessons of real life have that effect.

Cloudy do you realize that knights fought against the Muslims. To be safe and to ensure you appease your Muslim lords I suggest the Crusaders become the Muslim Chargers. Use the same idea to rename Christchurch.

Then move on to all the other changes you need to effect to make nz home to the Muslims. They wont assimilate so it's only right that NZ changes to suit the Muslims. And no I don't want to hear about how they treat foreigners in Muslim lands as that is just an excuse.

Also please write to your PM telling her how stunning she looks in her hijab.

I have no hatred for anybody and has never called anybody derogatory names like "kaffir".   However,   I keep to historic truth on the issue giving the history of  how the world crept into the Afrikaans language.

In Muslim countries Kafirs get killed and the murderers rarely or ever get punished because they are doing their patriotic religious duty.

However, in essence I said from the start that what happened in Christchurch was a horrendous crime - but that it must not justify th ings like rugby name changes made to appease the radical Muslims and their do -good fellow travelers.
