Crusaders win - but too many errors on both sides made the game into an attractive, but even more so a bad display of rugby. I thought the Crusader scrummy was wicked and with that display he gave the Chiefs a chance to get within 7 points.
Lets look at the issue of forward play first. The Chiefs were poor in the scrummaging and got pushed back in the scrum - just not good enough. The Chiefs could have won the game but for the issue that they could not win line outs - Retallick did not live up to his name and the line outs of the Chiefs were wicked and very poor.
Back line play - Sunny Boy was excellent - but Cruden not so. Missed too many kicks at goal and also missed a penalty line kick. Did not show the capacity he showed in the Irish test and under pressure he wss just not good enough on the night's play.
On the Crusader side - they were good in the scrums and line outs and the coach could not ask for more. I think that Carter really had an average game tonight. Some of his line kicks werre excellent - but his goal kicking atrocious. Too many missed goal kicks for a player of his stature.
I did not see who was man of the match - but my vote would have gone to Sunny Boy..
From a points perspective - he Chiefs will get one bonus point and are under threat for top position on the log by the Stormers. If th latter does something - which they have been unable to do this competition and score 4 tries - they would be on top of the log - since they would have won more games than the Chiefs.
