With Abbott and Philander operating in tandem the honours belong to the Proteas. I think South Africa is very fortunate to have two bowlers with similar styles operating as a combined force to ask questions of batsmen. And it's their combined force which makes the difference. I liken it to having two Shaun Pollock's or Glen McGrath's or for our Kiwi friends, two Richard Hadlee's. We should have had a lot more runs on the board but for poor application from our batsmen.
Hats off to the Curator who's done a marvelous job with the pitch, a pitch which has something in it for both batsmen and bowler. There'd be movement if the bowler found the right length and there'd be runs on a small ground if the batsmen read the line of the ball. Test cricket would be a lot more attractive if there were more pitches prepared to capture the interest of all parties, batsmen, bowlers and the paying public.
