Was watching the Colts play last night and got me curious about Adongo. Would really like to see him make it but from what I have seen so far it is very difficult, once an adult, for someone to translate their skills from rugby to football and vice versa.

The Daniel Adongo Experiment is over – at least for 2014.

The Colts' rugby star-turned-linebacker suffered a biceps injury in Thursday night's Colts preseason opener and tonight he was waived/injured by the team. This is a procedural move that would send Adongo back to the Colts' injured reserve list if he goes unclaimed on waivers, which is probable.

Adongo has been making strides as a linebacker since joining the Colts in the summer of 2013, but this is likely to be a significant setback for his development.

One of the reasons this preseason was critical for Adongo is because it was going to provide the opportunity for the most substantial playing time he's ever had. For a guy who was introduced to football only a year ago, this was expected to be invaluable.

Offensive line injuries mount for Colts

But this injury, suffered early in the game against the New York Jets, just blew those plans up.

If Adongo ends up on IR, the Colts will work with him to rehab and get back in shape to make a run at next year's roster. But it will end up being a lost year for a player who needed experience in the worst way.

It's a tough break for a guy everyone seems to root for. But given the Colts' recent rash of injuries, perhaps we shouldn't be surprised.
