I like a big centre pairing myself, but the modern game demands speed and mobility. If you can find an elusive player that is smaller, but holds up well, then you obviously find a place for him. Why field a backline of bashers? He boasts of England's centre pairing, but it's the least dynamic they've fielded in a while. The smaller pair in 2010 that stood toe-to-toe with New Zealand was better, as was their lighter wing. Perspective. Our two best performing 13s in SA are de Jongh and Robert; nothing much more can be said to dispute that fact.
Did you guys hear Kearnsy lambasting the 'Tahs for chip kicking? and calling for it's banning from their game? My thoughts as well I might add. Some on here think chipkicks are creative!!!
Something our sides never use is the grubber. The Kiwis in particular use it well to turn the rush defences around.
Sure, but I'm totally against using it in the oppositions red zone. Unfortunately the oval board has an intelligence of it's own and besides there are several benefits of ball in hand once in that zone. Should say to chipkick in the opposition's red zone is just dumb rugby having worked your ass off to get into that zone.
Wow I dont get that having watched the match and seeing the great try Fruean scored. Unless Ebersohn did something in the last 30min which I have not seen yet, I dont get how he won MOM
Like de Jongh, they are both good rugby players and had they weighed 95kg's they would have made ideal test 13's. As I continue to point out - there is no current test 13 playing for the top 8 test nations weighing less than 95kg's - its called the sign of the times.
These little guys will get away with the odd good showing at S15 level and thats where it ends. Test rugby is another story. The prerequisite for a test 13 is size, skill and pace - these little guys fail in the first and therefore will NEVER make sustainable test 13's
So Denny in your wisdom are you advocating that players not use the chip kick as an attacking weapon?
