Watched his interview on the Big Jim Show a couple of weeks back. At one point during the interview DDA said something along the lines of "...if I play..." when talking about the Irish series. It seemed like there was a little more than general humility behind those words.
And I see that he is on the bench for this game. Kind of a strange pick.
AE could play three tests in a row against the Welsh and seem unphased from minute 1 to minute 240. So why is DDA on the bench? He's not there to get the Boks out of trouble because he never does and they won't be in trouble.
This strikes me as though it has something to do with Brown wanting to make direct comparisons between the two on the same day. 40 minutes each and lets see who does better, type of thing.
While Dave is convinced that DDA is the best 12 in the game, I'm of the feeling that he isn't guaranteed a starting spot against the Irish. We may be seeing the end of him.
Were DDA not in the Welsh match day squad at all then I'd be more confident of him starting against Ireland but, as it stands, I'm thinking he may not.

he is on the bench as back-up for Esterhuizen - the chances of the latter buggering  up is huge,

I’ve said DA is one of the best 12’s in the game and certainly the most consistent selection at 12 ahead of any other test 12 out there. But I know Esterhuizen is just as good so I’d be more than happy to see Esterhuizen start at 12. Literally the only player I have an issue with is powder puff Mostert. It’s non negotiable - my Bok locks have to be physical

My Bok flanks have to be able to protect the ball.

PSDT protects the ball - the only player that can’t is Mostert - evidenced twice in the WC taking contact and conceding possession - he is weak

If the Boks have brought this new Kiwi in with the hopes of capitalising on some of the talent we have from 9 to 15 lately...then I struggle to see DDA being a part of that.

Let's remember what was previously the main argument for his inclusion...It was that he was suited to playing a particular role. And that role was to be a midfield donkey.

We won't be seeing the stepping we saw from him early in his career as he's too old now. He has shown very few touches to ever convince anyone that he can put people into space. He has never shown an ability to keep up with play and be there for a 10 or 13 when they make a break.

So, by all counts, if the Boks are looking at more expansive rugby, it's difficult to see DDonkey being a part of that new direction.

That’s absolute nonsense DA is a class act and Brown will know that - he has more than proved his worth at 12 DA is not done yet and if we are looking to move on at 12 it’s too late for Esterhuizen as he is already 30 Options at 12 are Willemse, David Kriel, Hooker, Rickus Pretorious, Jordan Hendrikse and Bruce Sherwood
