De Jongh Knockers.....
One swallow does not make the summer. De Jongh has been poor last year - the worst defender imaginable. He did two good things yesterday - now suddenly he is the best player around. I do not like one-match wonders - like you do. I still have serious reservations about him and he will not last the season without bombing out - to weak a player to perform on a continuous basis.
Nothin personal - I recognize only facts - not fiction. I do not accept one match wonders - the series will tell us what he can produce. Based on the past two years - the signs are not promising. Sp lets discuss the question next week again.

De Jongh was always a great prospect at 13, but was stuffed up at 12 for a long time and now he is in Death Valley for good backline players. He would be sensational at the Cheetahs or the Lions, or Sharks. Better than being a spectator for under the hapless Coetzee.
De Jongh outplayed JJ when they meet head-on last year. A fact that was conveniently ignored. He is a better centre, because he understands the position...in all sorts of ways. He gets forward to make forcing tackles.....JJ hangs back. De Jongh goes low and finishes the tackle, JJ goes high.....every frigging time....and waits for help to finish the tackle. De Jongh runs much better lines.
You are right Shezza he is a not great passer like Jean or Bod....but neither is JJ.
I personally think he is more of a bench centre than a Bok starter, but the rubbish that has been directed his way is not cool.
You miss the topic here - it is about De Jongh not JJ Engelbrecht.
I think that players like JJ going high suffers from a serious technical deficiency - but they normally do not miss as many tackles as De Jongh does - his tackle stats showed it last year.
Problem is that De Jongh is really too small and light to play at center - the result is that players often enough run over or through him with his best endeavours going low.
I have reservations of my own about JJ - but I have even worse reservations about De Jongh.
What baffles me is why Jake would recommend Alistair to succeesd him rather than Meyer!!! Look what Meyer did for the Bulle. The Boks backline whas poor when cochd by Alistair and hence Jake calling up Eddie Jones who made a big difference. I find this disturbing. Also disturbing was Jakes mocking of the Bulle style of play which has not been nearly as one dimensional as Jake suggested. It was downright insulting. Now look at the egg!
My sense is you just don't like de Jongh.
de Jongh's ran all of how many metres to score that try and handed all of one little guy off, it was a good try but hardly earth shattering and does not detract from the fact that he is too small for 13 evidenced s eason after season........there is a reason the guy no longer has a Bok contract.
We will shortly see how much he gets exposed, for no doubt useless Coeztee will elevate him to the starting 13 spot in the very near future and de Allende will find himself on the bench once again
Ah Moz, so let me guess Jean and Morne had nothing to do with the Barrett try and Jannie had nothing to do with the Bosch try??????
This is about as accurate as JJ and Serfontein only having an inside step.......its a joke
There is a reason JJ has a Bok contract and de Jongh does not........do the maths
Can you remember how Mozart wrote praise songs like it was unbelievable after5 De Jongh scored the try in the CC final - and how it was the ebst try scored by any backline player for years - which obviously was BS
The hype was incredible and Meyer fell for it - only to see the lack of doing anything in the Scotland Test and t he Twickenham test where he went AWOL.
This is just a repeat of that episode - so we will have to live with it for the moment and have a really good weapon to aim at Mozart in future.
I like de Jongh as a player, but he is not physical enough for a centre.......a centre needs grunt in the modern game to impose themselves physically in traffic.......de Jongh cant do that, he cant drive a player backwards in contact and gets bounced around in traffic with ball in hand.
He is good in space, has good pace and a great step, he also has a great tackling technique when effecting low open field tackles.
He is half baked......if he was 10kg's heavier, he would be awesome.
There is no place in modern rugby for a 87kg outside centre. I would play de Jongh on the wing

There is no place in modern rugby for a 95kg outside centre with skinny legs. I would play JJ on the wing
Just trying to show that one man's De Jongh is another man's JJ.
De Jongh deserve credit for two runs - the one with a gaping hole in front of him - allowing to score a try. However, he attempted two tackles and missed one. Any comment on that?
He is starting off with a 50% missed tackle ratio this year - is he going to be worse than last year?
