Depth at Flyhalf in 2014

The depth at flyhalf for South Africa is maybe the best it has ever been. Currently 4 contenders for the Springbok position, or at least should be after the SuperXV.
1. Goosen- Good allrounder, hopefully he can stay injury free.
2. Lambie- Good allrounder, seems to be playing better under Jake White.
3. Swiel- Good allrounder, hopefully he gets some game time. I am sure he is better than Lambie and possibally better than Goosen.
4. Boshoff- have to see more of him, but he does look physical and will bring some more presence on defence. So far this season -a great kicker and also plays fullback so should have a decent running game.
-------Catrakillis is a kicking flyhalf, very one dimensional. Debatable if he is even of SuperXV standard
Janties Silky Hands is not SuperXV level, let alone International level. No longer first choice at the Lions and this may be his last season in the SuperXV
Morne Steyn will allways be decent behind a winning pack, but is useless if his pack is not dominating. He should be discarded an never considered again.
Fouche is either in poor form or he is not SuperXV level. He looks like a flank trying to play flyhalf. Pollard needs to start for the Bulls.

Sure discard Morne for a bunch of guys who do well in nothing games. The same refrain was heard at this time last year and it all imploded.

 To bleed new players in to the Bok team we need to be able to look beyond Morne at fly half.I dont think Morne is that bad.What he does he does well and what he lacks is made up for by his work rate.I honestly hope we will see Lambie and Goosen take the reigns.Lambie at the moment has his foot further in the door then Steyn anyway...but...but...Remember,the big games are still looming large.Lambie hasnt played one RC game for a full 80 mins at fly half and neither has Goosen.Also with the development of Boshoff we could see a mexican stand off between the three for the shirt.If none really impresses in the Super season then Meyer will look to Steyn,hands down.He plays a safe hand and would rather go for what he knows rather then stepping out in faith because in the end its his job on the line.Hence the fact that he selects older players like Fourie and J Fourie...also Botha.Dont know what the experiment was there.

Well that's a better perspective Arizona. Here's my problem. Goosen has to prove he can stay healthy and Boshoff  has to prove he's for real. Lambie has some credentials. He tackles better than Morne and runs onto the ball well at pace. The problems emerge with pressure....yesterday he got charged down twice and missed touch with a penalty....and that was in a game where he wasn't even under pressure. 
But the real issue with Lambie is he doesn't add anything to the launching the backline....the supposed reason he is picked. Sure he is a bit flatter. Sure he has executed one or two planned moves.....but leave him to his own devices, and even behind a dominant pack he is bankrupt. Yesterday that meant Steyn had to make things happen...a lot of pressure.

So until one of these chaps steps up and proves they can consistently provide a new dimension in tough, test like games....I stay with Morne whose superior boot and stable decision making gives a known we can work with.

 We are in safe hands as long as we never see Morne in a Bok jersey again

His French club see him for what he is...............an average rugby player with a good boot......he just does not fit into the French style of play

He doesn't have to fit the French style of play....I mean based on their thrashing by the Boks and Wales, who wants to....he has to fit our pattern! That's all.
