Cape Town - Zimbabwe’s national rugby team have been forced to sleep on the streets of Tunisia as they prepare for their match this weekend.

The Zimbabweans, who lost 45-36 to Kenya in a Rugby World Cup qualifier last weekend, are in the north African country this week where they will be looking to get their qualifying campaign back on track.

However, their preparation for the match has been hampered, allegedly as a result of appalling accommodation and a lack of funds.

Images have surfaced on social media (see below) of the team, coached by former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers, lying and sleeping on the streets.

Other reports indicated that they were held up at the airport for hours when authorities took their passports after they were unable to pay a visa fee.

One of the Zimbabwe players, flank Takudzwa Mandiwanza, told Zimbabwean radio station Capitalk FM that the tour has been a “shambles”.

“We have not been paid our daily allowances for our duration in Kenya, including our match fees that we did not receive. 

Now we’re in Tunisia, we were detained at the airport for close to six hours, with no allowances given to us.”

He added that De Villiers had bought the players sandwiches and drinks out of his own pocket.

“We’d be hungry right now. The situation is very frustrating and disheartening."

Wow!! A total disgrace.

Why do they tolerate it?

What a joke..... Maybe there should be a charity paid for rugby fans around the world to fund their efforts. 

The sad question is in 20 years will the Boks be the same?

When I was very young I hated injustices to the so called non -european people in SA...it was more to do with petty apartheid and the lack of respect for people with darker skins... an abomination...but when I went through stages in the world, Rhodesia, Kenya and travelled a bit and saw the world all my experiences and interaction with different nations and peoples lead me to a truth...Africa is totally incompetent to rule with Black majority governments...never was and never will...they need strength, rational, disciplined cultures but there cultures are totally poles apart from Europe's and other civilised nations of the world. We gave them which they really did not want...deep down there is a psychologic al hated of the white colonialist who was the foundation of civilisation every where be that in Africa, Americas, parts of Asia....Africans are lovely people in their own cultures but cannot be crash-coursed into learning about running successful businesses, enterprises or efficient costing and management of economics in government...this is not a myth but true...look at the whole continent of Africa from the North through Central, East and West right down to SA...not a single one a viable and ongoing concern. Always blaming every one in the world, abusing and squandering loans, abusing tax payers money....and many, many, weaknesses in law, justice and order...too much, one could go on and on forever...when you challenge, reprimand them or try to put them right they protest and scream "racialism"...the warped and crooked Western World supports them in the liberal departments of their governments for deep undercurrent, clandestine reasons.

The petrol price went up R1,06 in less than a month and another increase is to take place in August.   Petrol will soon cost R20 per liter pushing up the price of all consumables.

Everyone can have a perspective and opinion on anything. It's the belief that someone has more "right" that causes the beginning of problems. South Africans living in ZA are the ones making the country a mess. If we are saying who has more right than who then that's a huge blow to the people living in ZA on my opinion. The biggest thing to me is dishonesty and unwillingness to point out the truth. The truth will set you free, but all thee social justice causes are based on lies or half-truths at best to lead to a full lie. Whites played a part in their own demise, but blacks have doubly bitten into themselves. They repeat mistakes over and over and struggle to learn. A coupla questions without notice.

The quota system is permanent and the plan is for it's percentage to increase. All of us agree that in principle it is wrong but you more than anyone else choose to repeatedly vent your frustration on social media. A fruitless exercise. It's like listening to Mickey monotonously banging away about Fat Fransie, Meyer, Alberts, Coetzee and Jake White.....painfully boring.

My question is...why do you continue to support the Boks when nothing is going to change with regards to quotas? I really don't understand why you don't walk away and put the Boks behind you, instead you whine away on a platform which cannot effect the change you crave.

My second question without notice...…...you whine away about the ruling party the ANC, why then don't you leave South Africa like others have?  It's the old story, if you hate your employer then find a different one. Once again, nothing is going to change for you by whining away on social media....change is in the power of your hands.

And just in case you say that I'm another who ran away(1979), allow me to inform you that I migrated because I hated living a life under Apartheid, that I left my family and close friends behind and that my wife and I were penniless on our arrival in Sydney, Australia.

When I was playing we used to billet other players and in turn be billeted ourselves and it was a great way to strengthen the bond that rugby creates .As a teenager I was able to go to the US in the 70s and was billeted by some fabulous folks ,we could not have afforded to  pay for accomodation especially in the university towns and if we had we would have been the poorer for it in more ways than one.

SA is an unholy mess and whether you live in the country or not it is easy to recognize.   Education is a shambles and children coming out of government schools cannot even read and understand what they are reading.   The health and hospital services has collapsed and 90% of local government institutions are malfunctioning.   

Under Zuma the crooks took over and every institution was infiltrated by them.   Much has been written about State Owned Enterprises - but the condition in most government departments and municipalities are rarely mentioned in the media.   Take for instance the   Municipality where I worked until 2012.   When I left they had a reserve fund of R500 million.   All that ,money vanished and the Municipality at the moment is in dire straights.  They had a clean audit for seven years - but had a bad Auditor General report the last financial year.   What actually happened - the crooks took over and looted it badly.   The other Municipalities are even worse.

I get requests to help from various institutions and has to write reports for them as well.   The latest response from one of those was amazing and I am waiting for follow-ups.   However, I made it clear to them any further requests for help will not be free-of-charge.
