Dewald is back!

20 February 2013, 10:04

Our resident off-the-wall columnist is back in 2013, returning to prove to us all that there's a lot more going on in rugby players' heads than we might give them credit for!

Bulls flanker Dewald Potgieter will be writing for us on a weekly basis throughout the Super Rugby season, and will no doubt be keeping us entertained with his quirky ruminations and insider knowledge.

So to start with Dewald give us a quick refresher course on what he's all about, looks forward to the Stormers game and even has a few things to say about THAT music video.

We hope you enjoy his musings. Actually, we know you'll enjoy them....

I would rather have Jacques than Dewald! Dewald is just too wee for a loosie.

Wow blue you know your stuff so Dewald at 102kg is too small for an openside flanker.......best Brussouw, Pocock and co give up the game now!!

Dewald tries hard and has some impact in the lesser S15 games. But when the matches become more pressing, his  trademark intensity is the norm.....and he disappears. This was always true of Watson, is true of Kolisi and frankly also of Coetzee last season.

Mozart

Specialising in talking tripe again.   Coetzee was rated the best loosie in Super 15 last year by the New Zealanders - and your take on him in the tests are prejudiced and way off the mark.

Gosh Mike, perhaps you can tell us why he was dropped to the Bok bench then. And why our loosies immediately became more effective after that..

Good old Moffie showing us his rugby ignorance again and hey shock, shock he is taking a negative swipe at our youngsters.

Mike you are spot on. Coetzee was our best loosie last year. Meyer did him a disservice and played him out of position at 6

Kolisi was up there with Coetzee last year, he was fantastic, but good old Meyer ignored him.

Both Coetzee and Kolisi will have long Bok careers, they are our future and two damn fine prospects.

Dewald Potgieter is another quality player - good enough to be a Bok squad member, just like Watson was a good few years back

There's  poor Fattex back with his Watson tripe.

Let me say it clearly. Apart from running right round your hero JJ, Kolisi did little after the first half of the Super 15.

Coetzee was promissing in the s15, although he had a poor final. In the tests he was becoming less and less effective....and was deservedly benched. He has a lot to prove.....right now he is miles behind Louw.

and I am saying Kolisi is a special talent with that uncanny ability to break tackle - the kid is really powerful and Meyer as he did for most of the year missed a trick my not playing him against England.

Coetzee remained one of our best loosies last year, was wrongly entrusted with the role of playing 6 when he is clearly a 7 or 8. Meyer got that wrong as well

Both will be Boks for a long time. Louw is good but nothing special. Kolisi is good enough to take his place. Coetzee should be challenging Vermeulen and Spies for the No 8 spot. He is equipped to play 7, but we tend to go with 115kg 7's at Bok level
