Bit of a between two stools player like Rossouw. Not quite big enough to be a dominant lock.....and a bit too clumsy as a loosie. This year's version of Potgieter....probably not going to make it at test level. But perhaps he will find his groove, he plays hard I have nothing against him.

Seems like a mindless robot but perhaps he will get better. If it was a world cup final and the Boks were losing by 5 points with 10 minutes to play, I would certainly want a smarter player like Schalk Burger on the field.
We seem to produce an unlimited supply of these type of players.

Thsis is weird - here we have a younger version of Alberts - clumsy, poor ball handler, but definitely a harder grinder. He is just not loosie material - a much more natural lock than loosie.
His talent is not passing balls - he crash ball every time he receives the ball - but his carries are more effectve than Albert's.
Can Cheika make a useful player from this one - sure he can - he changed Jacques Potgiter from a useless and mindless player into a really good player as a lock.
Have to laugh at Mozart's comment:-
" Not quite big enough to be a dominant lock.." The guy is 2,01 meter tall and we ighs 119 kgs. Really funny since Mozart thinks that Matfield at 106 kgs is his idea of a dominant lock. Wierd - but true.

The bane of our rugby liife is that we have donkey coaches who think donkeys is the way to go - they turn useful players into donkeys- come hell or high water.

Not so sure whether Donkey is the best description, they are quite dense but also rather useless.
I think a Rhino is more apt, they aren't too bright, has poor vision and runs into anything that moves.

I usually have an internet rule not to say anything on line i would not say to someones face. It would appear I have broken that rule. I would not call either Du Plessis or Potgeiter donkey to their faces. So if either are reading my apologies. As BB has noted I may call them Rhino but even this is doubtful. For the record I have been called much worse.

Du Plessi is a fine lock prospect. He turned 21 in August. He and Flip wiill be the Bulle locks next year and quite a pair they will make.
Labuschagne will probably be the number7.Greying, Strauss, Marcel van der Merwe.Flip, Jaque

He does not show physical dominance in every game. Against EP, for example, he got stopped first tackle nearly every time, even by backs. His physical presence didn't trouble them much that I could see. If he put in a truly dominant showing during this entire CC it must have been in one of the few games I missed.
I can see him as a decent lock. Too slow and passive for a flanker.

I suspect for a very young player like Du Plessis its been a very long season. He has played alot of rugby.
He will fill out to over 120 kgs and has sufficient pace for a nice mobile lock. Grant Hattingh - given at 107 kg by wikie is more liley to make a decent number 7 -I would think he is above that weight?Snapster with this swearing control programme you are becoming incoherrent!

I wanna know something...
We all thought Donkey Potgieter was a donkey.
He left SA and went to the Tahs where he shone in a team that won the SXV.
We now have a new donkey on our hands.
Both of whom played for the bulls.
Can we see the common denominator here?
I dig Claydog's idea.
Send him to the Tahs or to a team with a coach without blinkers on, then lets see what he can do.
I'm a fan of the donkey by the way.
