Ex Supersport

Sharks prop Jannie du Plessis has praised the work former Springbok coach Jake White has done at the Brumbies, transforming them from a bottom three Vodacom Super Rugby club two years ago into early pace-setters this season. (Please note snapster)

The Australian franchise top the overall conference standings after their unbeaten start to the competition, but face a battle to hold on to that position when they come up against the Durban outfit at Kings Park on Saturday.

White, who led South Africa to the 2007 World Cup title, is 18 months into a four-year deal in charge of the Canberra side having taken over after one of their worst seasons in the competition in 2011 when they ended third bottom.

“I think he's made a massive difference at the Brumbies,” Du Plessis said on Tuesday.(Please note snapster)

If you look at it, he's only in his second season and they've really come up in leaps and bounds.(Please note snapster)

“I'm sure he'll enjoy playing here this week.”

Du Plessis, 30, was handed his Bok debut by White just a few months before going on to be part of the squad that were crowned world champions in France.

Of course he's a very good coach (please note snapster), I mean you don't win the World Cup if you're not a good coach,” he said.

I can definitely see the way he coaches in how the Brumbies play. He's very, very organised and he plans stuff to a tee. We are going to be up against a very well prepared side. (Please note snapster)

“You can see that in the way they're playing at the moment, everybody knows where to go and it looks like they have a plan in place and one that everyone of the players follow.”

Du Plessis has since gone on to play 42 tests for the Springboks and recently won his 100th cap for the Sharks.

He said he was relishing his scrum battle against the Brumbies, an area where the Durban side had impressed so far this season.

“I think they have a very good scrum and if you watch their previous games, they did really well there,” he added.

“We're up against some really good opponents and I think it's going to be a massive challenge for us to keep the set-piece going well. We're looking forward to it.”

Du Plessis and the Sharks scrum will have to do without two players that play at the back end of their pack after it was revealed on Tuesday that loose forwards Jean Deysel and Jacques Botes will be out for up to four weeks due to injury.

Springbok Deysel was replaced early in their win against the Southern Kings after suffering a ligament injury to his ankle, while Botes, who had come on to replace him, has a suspected cracked wrist.

However, coach John Plumtree did confirm that captain (WEE) Keegan Daniel is fit again after his knee injury and could feature against the top-of-the-table Brumbies.

“Keegan trained really hard with us this morning and hopefully he'll be able to return this week, which will ease a little bit of the pain,” the Sharks boss said.

Two things. Firstly the rugby education of snapster continues and hopefuly he will at some point abandon the trashing of Jake White. Dr Du Plessis of course knows far, far more about rugby than ou snapster and hence snapster should consider these statements carefully and not come up with his kneejerk re Jake being a piss poor coach etc contrary to all evidence.

Secondly, the Sharks better improve a great deal if they hope to beat the Brumbies. Will Frans make the starting 15 is a question. He could be running out of time if his play does not improve. Wake up Frans!! How good will Keegan be after his break. He normally disappears in big games in any event ( maybe h eshoul dsimply be an impacyt player?). Will Du Toit start at 7 - he should.

I'm with you on this one Beans. Jake turned the Brumbies around the moment he joined them. Saff is going to say he had a crap win ratio for the Boks, they had an easy schedule last year that didn't put them up against strong opposition, Jake has got assistant coaches that are making all the difference etc etc... But he'll ignore the fact that he turned the team around with a bunch of unknown players last year, and this year he has been able to sign some recognised players, and that, coupple with his effective coaching, has produced a side that is leading the overall conference.

But ja, what does Dr Du Plessis know?

Ah what rubbish......Jannie is playing the psychology game here, the Brumbies are the Sharks next opponents and he is talking them and their coach up.

Jake flopped with the Brumbies last season and failed to make the top 6, they also played all the bottom of the table sides bar one or two as was pointed out by Sas I think.

Jake is an average coach, with a 67% record with the Boks and has not achieved anything with the Brumbies. Winning their first 3 games this season means nothing considering who they have played and besides its early days yet.

The Sharks should chew them up

Here we have another example like with the players you slagoff Jake White - and what is it that you have achieved that makes you the better one who can judge him?  Maybe I know not who you are but please tell us how you are better than jake so you can judge him.  I can not go tell my boss how to do the job because every day I learn from him he has achieved more than me but I try even when I do not agree I question yself because he always proves he the better one of us.  So, you must sometimes question your motives,nê.

KaalFreddie, I coached my goldfish to swin clockwise around their bowl, so therefore am more than qualified to comment on how average Jake is as a coach, ne?

I have a great deal of respect for Jake, I just wished the haters would back off and give the guy credit. I wonder who they think would have been a better coach than Jake. I just don't get it why certain people hate him so much. 67% is really good for a springbok coach. PDV was absolutely abysmal and never even tried to coach the boks and left it to the players. Mallet was okay but never left a lasting legacy.

If you look the players that Jake left behind after he left compared to PDV and other coaches then you have to give credit. I have always rated him and that is why the Brumbies are my 6th team I'm supporting the Super Rugby. The 5 SA teams and Jakes team the brumbies.

Meyer has done absolutely squat with the boks last year. We had 3 teams in the play-offs and two in the Semi's one team which finished top overall in the league and yet he couldn't produce the same results.

Better get some perspective as to why Jake has the winning formula

I can not argue like you priviledged people but to just use some stats when it suits you is more of a proof that you talk nonsense.  Jake took a bunch of players and moulded them - he was even fighting the bosses to.  Piet the devilliers inherited that bunch he developed nothing that is also why meyer is struggeling.  But meyer is not as good as jake nê
