This is a huge blow for the Sharks.

Springbok and Sharks lock Pieter-Steph du Toit has been ruled out for the rest of the year due to a knee injury.

The 21-year-old was injured in training on Thursday and subsequent scans have shown an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The Sharks confirmed the news via their official Twitter account on Friday.

Stephan Lewies has replaced Du Toit in the Sharks starting team for Saturday's Super Rugby match against the Reds at Kings Park.

 Bad news indeed. 
This could also pretty much put him out of contention for a starting position at the world cup. Given Meyer likes to have tried and proven combinations, nothing less than man of the match performances in 2015 SuperXV will be enough to push him into the starting position.

 JUst pray Meyer doesnt get conned inot picking the pap victor matifeld!!!!Meanwhile the Stormers list of injuries is not going well. Etzebeth, Cilliers and Malherbe out, Rhodes and Elstadt out. Taute and Kolbe out.Some should come back shortly.  We must win our next two. 
How very annoying to be robbed yet again againt the crustations!!!

This kind of thing is what makes a rugby career so hard to predict. It's not just a question of form, but also of injuries. Last year du Toit looked like an accident waiting to happen, the way he threw his body about the park. This year he seemed more settled, but ironically he gets hurt in training. Bad luck for the youngster.

Acl injuries are a bitch, I torred mine several years ago and only had surgery last year. You never recover from them. Especially if you tear cartlidge. The thing is, just a stupid turn or step can mean the end your season when it comes to acl's.

Victo will definately be back. It was Meyer who asked him to play again. Besides, other than flip and estebeth, we don't have any other decent locks. Maybe Lood, but no other.

Not good - these youngsters being pushed too hard, playing too much? Knee injuries are tough to come back from and keep the same explosiveness

With both Etzebeth and du Toit getting multiple injuries, it's a fair question Matey. These guys aren't fully physically mature until they are 23....and by then they have done a lot of hard miles.
