Duanne Vermeulen officially retire

Wow, what a legend this man has been and also a true role model. 

Losing his farther at age 7, having to step up to look after is a younger sister and the to go onto becoming one of the greatest players. 

As a fan, I loved watching him play and he should have been capped way earlier. He spent many years not being selected. 

Not to mention the injuries he had to overcome such as a broken neck. He just picked himself up and carried on. 

I know some would say Morné Du Plessis, but those were different time. Since professionalism, Duanne had been my favourite. Can't believe he put in such a great shift at 37. Not the same player as four years ago but still extremely valuable to the boks winning the world cup. Take a bow and hope you stay in rugby

And so says all of us.   Meyer thought he was useless and preferred Spies to him and only selected him when Spies was injured.         

A great player…a one man ‘exit’ strategy. Who can forget his offload in that brilliant Ellis Park test against the ABs in 2013 and his match winning offload to F du Preez against Wales in the 2015 WC Quarter. Plus a host of crucial turnovers and money at the line outs.

And his ‘captaincy’ in both our WC wins,

"Take a bow and hope you stay in rugby"

Who knows.... maybe the next Springbok defense coach

An exceptional player who is fortunately moving into coaching. 

After so many years at the top of such a physical game, it was pretty much just his corpse playing in the end. His brain consciousness should have been transferred to Wiese as part of the bomb squad

A truly great Bok. As King corn said, and I lamented at the time, he was picked far to late.

I think he will do a great coaching job. 

I would love to see him take up a currie cup post first and see if he can inspire the next crop of players before being thrown straight into the bok setup like they did with Stick. 

I think the best way to test a player to coach is to see how Scott Robertson did for the Crusaders. 

Rassie followed a similar path from player to coach. There is no quick path. I know that made Martin Johnson England coach, but it was a disaster.

Maybe Vermuelen will take over the Bulls. Jake will probably retire when he leaves the Bulls
