A controversial late penalty, which sank the Cheetahs in their clash against the Brumbies, will be investigated by Sanzar.

The Brumbies won their Super Rugby clash in Canberra 24-23 after centre Christian Lealiifano kicked a penalty after the hooter had sounded.

Referee Chris Brown awarded a dubious penalty to the home side after he felt the Cheetahs deliberately swayed the scrum.

Brown punished the Cheetahs on several occasions, especially at the scrums. (Same a what happened to bulle)

And Lyndon Bray, Sanzar's refereeing boss, told the Beeld newspaper that three scrum specialists - former Bok prop Balie Swart, NZ scrum guru Mike Cron and former Wallaby prop Patricio Noriega - will study that last penalty against the Cheetahs as well as two other calls over the weekend to determine if the right decisions were made.

"Keith may not have been very sharp with the early engagement of the scrums and therefore it wasn't a pretty sight throughout the game. (IT COST THE CHEETHAS THE MATCH)

"But, concerning that last decision, we'll have to determine if the teams firstly scrummed forward and then lawfully swayed the scrum with momentum.

"When it sways immediately without force, it may be unlawful," said Bray.

Bray is currently in South Africa where he is meeting with several local coaches and referees.

On ecan only hope tha tthere i sa proper inverstigation and no cover up.

How come BL was not investigated?

I for one hope those calls by Keith get investigated - they were shameful calls.

As for BL, get over it, he didn't knock on for the Boks twice when the tryline was begging nor did he lift Samu's legs illegaly at the line-out, nor did he make the decision when there was still time to call ruck after ruck after ruck infront of the sticks when a drop goal was begging!

Knock on twice? So the Boks needed to score 5 tries before one was accepted? They nailed three before that. Bryce single-handedly took that game from the Boks. I hear far too much about what the Boks should have done in that game, and far too little about what they actually did. A minimum of 21 points from tries alone wiped out by a crook, add in the penalties that should have been and it was well over 30.

As per the Brumbies? Pay no attention to it. So far, the only ref to be severely lambasted is one who dared to penalise the All Blacks! Nothing ever comes of these supposed investigations. Nothing will ever change.

The Boks were infront and had the Wallabies on the ropes until the illegal lifting of Samu's leg picked up by the touch judge who had his flag out! Funny the players led by Smit blamed the ref straight away instead of themselves! BL did not lift Samu's leg!

What of Pocock taking out a player off the ball as the last defender? Straight red card offence. What of the multiple swinging arms to throats? Yellow card offences. What of their mutliple illegal meanderings at the breakdown in their 22? Penalty offences. The three tries I pointed out that were wiped off the board? Or Australia's dubious try? No matter which way to slice it, Bryce kept Australia in that game through every means possible. He had to resort to the most extreme measures I have ever seen in any sport to do so. I have never seen a more crooked game like that in all my life.

Aristocat I think we reached the pits with BL - it could hardly have been worse. It is totally ludicrous then after having been denied numerous points to say Samoa's leg shouldn't have been lifted. We were entitled to a fair competent ref. If we had one, any mistakes we made were more than covered by the points we lost due to BL Its simple logic.

As I said how much better do we have to be than OZ - 40 points. That approach is plain crazy.

It was one of the worst ref displays ever seen. The disgrace was then worsened by BL being made nz ref of the year. One of the most shameful acts ever in the history of the game. How much lower can you sink.

No we must move on but unfortunately nothing has been done about it so all one can do is wait for the next time. I wonder if any Saffer seeing that game can ever forget what happened. I doubt it.

I support what ever serves to root this rubbish out.

my point is to blame BL for the loss is too easy - it absolves the players and the coaching staff of any responsibility for the loss!

If Graham Henry did not think he and the players he chose had any fault in the their 2007 RWC loss to France, he wouldn't have gone back from losses in RWC 1991 to 2007 to find out where the previous ABs coaches and he went wrong and to make efforts to correct them come RWC time. Even though the ABs won, he said the gameplan they had went out the window with the players and they did not stick to the gameplan they devised for the French.

This is my own opinion!

"any mistakes we made were more than covered by the points we lost due to BL. Its simple logic."

I agree, beeno. BL was a bigger reason they lost, then their mistakes. Anyone can see that.  Boks, and SA's have to move on though.

As for the Cheetahs game, I thought that last call was the correct one. Unfortunately, I didn't think the game was called well overall though.

Lets get issues into perspective here .   BL made a disaster of the game between the Australians and SA - and he lost his confidence in his ability to referee matches and had to get councelling to recover his confidence - he is still in the recovery phase and will not ref anything in the first part of the Super Rugby competition.

That does sound to me that the authorities realize that he buggered up - and he did not get away with it completely.   The problem is that New Zealand does not have an abundance of good referees and they got to have a referee of the year.   A flop consequently have to be used in thiss case.   Some would say it was a vote of thanks for getting rid of the Springboks - the All Blacks did not savour the idea of facing the Springboks in the senis - but I think it was really a case of selecting something from a nearly bare cupboard in this case.

Insofar as the Cheetah game is concerned - the referee would be one that would fail a test  to referee a school game and the fact that his decisions are to be reviewed soes not mean that the result of the game would be changed - it stands.    What it means is that the referee could be removed from the panel of referees used - which could be a warning sign to other incompetents who may be more careful in disihng out penalties.

The aussies are famous for crooks in the wromng positions.   I can rember a crooked umpire called Darryl Hair = the one with a balls before wickets invention as a reason for dismissal of players.   His first test established his reputation and it was only when India insisted on his removal from the umpire panel that the ICC actred and fired him.   He would not have passed any review situations - lucky he got out beforre they introduced the system.   One crooked referee/umpire gone and others should follow.

"clever" mike mostly correct but please - BL was thanked for his wc efforts. As bad as nz refs are they are not as totally shocking as BL. So its not simply a case of selecting the best of the bad apples.

nz cheated their way to the wc and worst of all perhaps was our connivance. France were also shafted by craig Joibert.  Moz played a You Tube clip of the WC final which showed all Craig's errors. Not as bad as BL - could you possibly get worse - but bad enough.

As for hawkwa' confused logic. By all means penalise us for lifting samoa's leg etc but give us the points due to us. We would then win by 20 plus points.  A run away victory was turned into a narrow defeat by yours truly BL. One of the most shameful incidents in nz rugby history. These nz oaks complained bitterly about  a forward pass that got them tossed out of the previous wc. We had to endure far, far more than that.

Stop trying to shift the responsibility away from where it belongs. Firmly on nz shoulders. Congrats to to Paddy O'brien who ensured a nz ref was in place to take care of the yarpies. Congrats to to the nzru who selected BL as their ref of the year - therebye showing the world their true cynical colours.

No this stain willl never wash away.  There is no sign that nz are reforming. BL I though had reffed a Super 15 match this season - only he will not be visiting Sa. Wise man.

Prof Noakes should have been heeded and a full investif=gation launched. If the ycan investigate the Cheetahs Brumbies fiasco they could surely have investigated BL and Craig Joubert in my view.  follow the money trail and see where it leads etc.  I do have fears of match fixing. Why rugby should think they are exempt from it amazes me in the face o fwha twe see happening. A clean up is needed.

Rugby has to rid itself of this rubbish. refs need to realsie everything they do is captured on camera. Refs need to be held accountable for their actions as Mitchell has said. Their perfomances have to be closely monitored. Biased cheats dumped and incompetents removed.

nz/oz biggest imports will then of course be refs Bwahahahahahahahahahahahah fair go mate - what a laugh!

Beeno1, that is insane logic - the ABs did not knock on for the Boks when the tries were begging, the ABs did not throw forward passes for the Boks, the ABs did not keep doing ruck after ruck after ruck infront of the post when the drop goal was begging in the final minutes.

As for Team tactics and player selection, what during the last 4 years gave you the idea that the Boks would win the RWC?

LOL Beeno1, I have to hand it to you!

In parting my friend, let me say BL is not the ABs just as Wayne Barnes does not represent the English Team 2007 - Barnes was however seen in the stands as spectator at RWC 2011 fist pumping/punching the air when the French scored their try and also miming to friends in a pub how he got rid of the ABs after the 2007 RWC and he is still crap as a ref today as he was then - watch the Wales vs Fiji game RWC 2011.

There's an article reporting Lyndon Bray seeking the help of three retired players to determine whether correct decisions had been made regarding scrumming in the Cheetahs game. Balie Swart apparently is one of those retired players. Well strike me blue, why would Bray require ex players to make a call when video evidence is available?  Isn't that what referees are about?

The Boks were robbed by BL ...no question.

Many NZ fans say the same thing about the game. The BBC was quite verbal about the ref. but nothing has been done about it.

One thing is for sure the way the Boks played against the Aussies in the quarters they would have blown the All Blacks away in the final.

You know it and so do all NZ rugby fans...even BL and the ref boss from NZ as well.

Robbed, robbed, robbed.

Hats off to the Springboks espically the Captain for not raising hell about the ref....pity.

BL should never be allowed to ref again (but he is) plus many other refs from DOWN UNDER.

The Welsh were saying the same thing Arthur, they would have blown the ABs away had they reached the finals - and of all people EVEN the Wallabies, they said that if Pocock had played against Ireland they would won and would have met the ABs in  the finals instead of the semis and they would have won in the finals. You must agree Arthur that we're hearing alot of wishful thinking.

Ask yourself this Arthur - if it wasn't the coaching staff fault that the Boks lost, why weren't they allowed to continue until 2015?

The difference between the Boks loss to Australia and all your examples is that the Boks were the better side and did more than enough to win. Neither side of the examples you cited had multiple key tries denied, nor did they dominate the game like we utterly dominated Australia. The difference is that the ref was the only factor that keep Australia in the game. No wishful think, simple fact. I believe we would have beaten New Zealand, but that isn't the issue I am concerned with. In short, we were robbed of the chance to find out by a crooked ref.

I see the spin doctors r out in force in this forum. Is this where all the cry baby Bok supporters come to spread there drivel? and it appears it’s the same whinging muppets casting aspersions and trying to tarnish my name again like the last time I was here, This despite my commandment forbidding thee from using my name in vain. Dummkopfs

As for my reffing, it’s always been impeccable and beyond reproach exemplified by winning ref of the year so stop trying to sully my good name otherwise I’ll have to start red carding some of you poufs. That includes you Bean Brain, Arse King and Not so clever mike. Jesus loves you whinging bit@hes but everyone else thinks you’re complete halfwits the way you make stuff up.

Just to set you straight on another point: the whole world knows you choked big time at the World Cup in Wellington, although the Aussies did repeatedly hammer you last year and not being able to beat them even once might have played a part!

Lets look at the facts shall we and the not so mighty Boks record in 2011– The WC loss in Wellington NZ was the third successive loss to Arstralia in 2011 that also included two Tri-nation losses, at Durban 14-9 and ANZ Stadium 39-20 - an undisputable fact that everyone chooses to ignore and pretends doesn’t exist.

So after losing to them twice, why should losing to them a third time be such a surprise and spark such indignation?  The hapless Boks also lost 41-10 to the ABs LMAO. How the heck do you expect to win a WC and become World Champions with such a totally abysmal record? Mate you’re dreamin’. Winning unconvincingly against Wales and Samoa affirms and endorses the fact that the Boks were average at best last year…others say, even sth Africans I might add, that your team was kak last year, apart from a few players the Boks were geriatrics they say, amateurs, obese slackarses, too predictable and just a freakin joke man.

So face up to it like real men, build a bridge and get over it. Get on with beating the ABs this year. (FAT CHANCE of that happening though LOL) 50 million South Africans can’t even beat little ol NZ -pop 4 million.

Looks like your Super Rugby teams are considerably less than super this year as well…maybe you should consider sticking to soccer after all.

Anyways, enjoy the next four years of rugby mediocrity and try not to think too much about us Kiwis being World Champions at Rugby Union and World Champions at Rugby league not to mention World Champions at Sevens. Face it. We have champions blood running through our veins. That’s just the way we roll.

So you’re all just a bunch of dreamers if you think one ref is responsible for an entire kak season. Multiple indicators suggest otherwise I’m afraid – Above are the true stats astrokat that you chose to ignore. I would suggest also that  losing your kicker Steyne contributed far more significantly than any reffing decisions. But your cuntry couldn’t recognize talent if it kicked you all in the head. Why is he playing in Franz anyway? Your best player and you let him get away. What dickheads.

.. And tell me. Are you clowns going to whinge about every referee decision all year after every game or is it just that time of the month? BORING.. Gets a bit tedious after a while don’t you think? There will always be line calls and refs don’t always get it right as often demonstrated by Andre Watson throughout his less than illustrious career but they’re all out there doing their best so cut them some freakin slack maybe.

Honestly, quit being such whinging little bit@hes with selective memories

- and Remember the Ozzies blew you away three times last year – not just once or twice the Ozzies blew you away three times last year so drop the pathetic excuses you inbred hicks…

Finally, anymore hillbilly pitch invasions and we’ll have to electrify your cages so try knocking that behaviour on the head instead of your bottles on the heads of visiting players. What a complete embarrassment to South African Rugby…funny though how the Bull supporter almost kakked his daks when Mealamu turned around.

Hope that straightened out the misconceptions you had and was’nt too much of a bitter pill to swallow or too much of a reality check for those lying bit@hes amongst you – Good to catch up again though and Have a nice day J

Any feedback can be directed to my facebook page and for complaints dial 0800GETFKED

ps.. The Mighty Waikato Chiefs are gunna pummel your sorry arse teams this year you can bet your house on it.

You Yapping Yarpie  teams have’nt got a snowball’s chance in hell against the Mooloo Men so you may as well give up now ..

The point ou brcy ignoe  -and I must say his  little rant was hilarious - is that if you are really confidnt of yourselves you dont need to cheat. Clearly nz realise that they cant compete with the Boks on a level playing field.

The mongs down under have a cetain animal cunning. Note how well positioned pPaddy o'Brien was for the world cup! Was it not him who had a large say in the refs appointed?

Note also that Henry is becoming involved with Argentinian rugby to swing them into being pals with nz no doubt.

Hope we will not see Argentinian refs also favouring nz!!

Always remember this incredible stat penaties:

NZ 43 penalties one yellow

Oz 7 penalties one yellow

Boks 6 penalties one yellow

Hence both SA and OZ refs favour nz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shocking that we think these guys are our great rugby mates.  I noted Naas Botha's glee when Nz beat France after our ref Craig Joubert shafted France big time. What is this thing with nz. can anyone explain?

If we were getting a fair deal in the tri nations and Super comp I could understand us siding with another SH country against a NH opponent. But we are repeatedly shafted by the twits down under. BL pulls off one of the worst performances ever by a ref, is made nz ref of the year and so many here in SA are happy nz won the WC!

It boggles the mind.

 hakwa,

Two points that I wish to resond to.

1. The coaching staff that you referred to were not selected on merit as stated at the time of their appointments by the SARU President (Hoskins).

The coach was selected because the SA government forced their transformation policy down the throats of the administrators of SA rugby. The guys who was in line for the post (on merit) was overlooked because he was "white"....shame on them.

2. No wishfull thinking. The AB's have got away with murder over the years with McCraw the main guy. Now the Aussies have Pokkie do the exact same thing and aslo getting away with it due mainly to bad and onesided ref....g.

This year hopefully we will see some action being taken to ensure that the standard of refs does not drop to the level of last season and I also think it is high time that refs also have to face the music on some of the bad calls they make.

Keep watching I am sure the new SA coach will get the Boks to were they should be once more....#1.
