The Golden Lions have named Elton Jantjies among the reserves for their match against the Free State Cheetahs in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Jantjies started both Super Rugby promotion-relegation play-offs against the Kings. After a disappointing performance at Ellis Park on Saturday, he's been replaced by Marnitz Boshoff (pictured) in the starting line-up.

Coach Johan Ackermann has made eight other changes to the run-on XV that featured in Johannesburg last weekend, which includes two new props in Jacques van Rooyen and Ruan Dreyer, and a new locking pairing in Stephan Greeff and Hugo Kloppers.

Flank Derick Minnie leads the team.

Golden Lions – 15 Chrysander Botha, 14 Deon Helberg, 13 Stokkies Hanekom, 12 Dylan des Fountain, 11 Anthony Volmink, 10 Marnitz Boshoff, 9 Guy Cronjé, 8 Willie Britz, 7 Warwick Tecklenburg, 6 Derick Minnie (c), 5 Hugo Kloppers, 4 Stephan Greeff, 3 Ruan Dreyer, 2 Martin Bezuidenhout, 1 Jacques van Rooyen.
Subs: 16 Francois du Toit, 17 CJ van der Linde, 18 Lambert Groenewald, 19 Jaco Kriel, 20 Tian Meyer, 21 Elton Jantjies, 22 Lionel Cronjé/Robert de Bruyn.

Earl???

Trying to be funny, huh???

Well he does kinda make me think of useless Rose!!!

Marnitz was good all season long. He deserves to be retained at 10.

A little surprised to see vd Linde featuring ... shows you how desperate we are.

To the Lions supporters/guys based in SA. Regarding the 9 position. Has that been a misprint that is meant to read "Ross Cronje" and not "Guy Cronje?" Ross, although slightly taller and bigger, was always the 9 and Guy was 10. Have they converted Guy to a 9 now as well?

BL, Ross got injured in the last Kings game and was replaced by his brother. How either have ever played a game of first class rugby is beyond me - both are piss poor

Ha ha Dave, I am thinking the exact same thing I just didn't want to be the one to make the call as it has been months since I saw them play. More like over a year. They could have drastically improved.

I remember there being nothing special about either. Great boys to get on the piss with in Umhlanga when I lived there and saw them around but they have just have never struck me as top level players. Should have ended for them at u19/21 level. Maybe even mess around in a team like the Griffons or SWD but they are simply not what I expect from a first class player. They are never going to challenge for higher honours. In fact, they barely tread water to make the match 22. Maybe its time to pull through the next crop of talent. Some real live wires that offer much more. I cant help but think these are 2 positions wasted!
