Based on the performances and repalcements in the first test the likely team for the second test would be as follows:-

15     Lambie

14     Basson

13     De Villiers

12     Steyn

11     Habana

10     Morne Steyn

  9     Pienaar

  8     Kankan

  7    Alberts

  6    Coetzee

  5    Kruger

  4    Etzebeth

  3    Oosthuizen

  2    Bismarck du Plessis

  1   Jannie Du Plessis

The bench would then be Hougaard and Jantjies in the back line - with maybe Olivier, but he did nothing when he came on yesterday.   However the squad limits the bench in a major way.

Amongst the forwards the bench would be the Beast, Strauss, Van der Merwe and through lack of alternatives Spies.

Lambie @ 15

Move Alberts to 8 (his position where he played all his life when he was with the Lions)

Move Marcel Coetzee to 7 and

bring Brussow back at 6 and move Kolisi to the bench.

Oh, I would keep Beast at 1 but slot Coenie in at 3.

Mike

Not a bad side but  there's a couple I won't buy, I don't think Basson is a good choice for test level and neither is Kankow, I'd drop Kirchner for Lambie and I'd have Alberts at 8 instead of Kankow. Piet Van Zyl comes in at scrummie while Hougaard warms the bench. I like Blikkies's loose trio with Kolisi on the bench.

Lambie did nothing of note all game. His fragility in contact was indeed something of a concern. Kirchner hands down.

Basson? Ridiculous. On the basis of what? Kick chase? You clearly haven't thought this through at all. Besides, JP offers too much.

Jean was very creeky on defence and offered nothing ball in hand. Play Olivier who excelled in the position in the Super XV. We have nothing to lose, certainly not leadership.

Pienaar in no way bettered Hougaard, in fact he lacked any intensity and was merely a link. He would never have survived that first 40. But I forgot, this is the WP crowd, so the evil bulle must go *rolls eyes*

Bismarck was the worst performing Bok yesterday. But by all means, play him when you have the superior Strauss who actually offers leadership qualities.

Kankowski is not test material. One okay debut that led to a series of dire test performances thereafter. This selection would be suicide, most of all against England who will up the physicality next week.

The idea of bringing Jantjies into the team is again suicide. No physical presence whatsoever, no tactical acumen, what is there to benefit the side?

The only addition we need is Brussow. Certainly Alberts, who was the best Bok by some distance, must never be moved from 7.

Ja Card, you have never grasped the concept of a fetcher. Compare Alberts game at 7 with that of McCaw (also 7) and you'll see no comparison. Those strong runs Alberts put in can also be done with him at 8.

Blikkies, South Africa have the opensider at 6, the rest of the world has the opensider at 7. You are comparing the wrong players. It was Coetzee who was our opensider. Alberts was the perfect blindesider yesterday, destructive in everything that he did.

Lambie , Fragile . oh no !! , i thought i misread that. but i double checked and you did say that. thats so silly. Why did the Coach pick him then ? Surely Meyer has more insight than you Der Aristokrat.

Are you just winding the people up ?? how silly !

Simple, point me to ONE assured tackle in the game by Lambie. Or one assured carry. Any time.

No Card, go and have a look at the games when Juan was playing for the Boks and you will see how often he and Schalk switched places during a game. There were no hard and fast rules. The only hard rule came when John Smit was playing at 3 and he insisted that Juan must be his flank in the scrum.

A similar situation is going on with the Cheetahs. You will see in critical scrums Brussow packs at the 8 position with Van der Walt (Cheetah 8) slots in on the flank behind WP Nel, thus making WP Nel looking good.

Part of the responsibility of the 6 and 7 and also the props is to protect the ball carrier and this is where we suffered yesterday in the first half when we lost a few turnovers because there just was not enough quick protection for our ball carriers. When Coenie came up the situation improved immediately because he has the speed to stay with the ball carrier. Alberts was hanging back and waiting for the ball. Once he got the ball, he was dangerous, but I still say he can do exactly the same thing from the #8 position.

Analysing the team as suggested - I can find only a few people on this thread and others who disagrees with the team.   The following were disputed:-

Full Back   -   Lambie get more support from most contributors.  One said Kirschner - who could that be?

Wing          :   The idea of removal of Pietersen and replacement by Basson is disputed,   Some wants

Hougaard to move to the wing - rather than to play Basson.    One exception - wants to

retain Pietersen - who could that be?

Scrummie     Most agree that he should move from scrummie.   Some suggest he should be on the bench

                                  - whilst others said move him to wing.    others suggest he should be on the bench.

One exception said he should be retained - who could that be?

No 8               General agreement that Spies needs to be replaced, ome think Alberts should move to 8

and to move Coezee to 7, to make way for Brussouw, but not in the squad,   One

exception who wants to retain Spies  -  who could that be.

Props             There is a slight disagreement as to how Oosthuizen should be accommodated and in

whose place he will play   however, full agreement - he should be in the team.

Just one other remark - I think we must forget about Meisiekind and put Engelbrecht on the bench

Keep back-peddling Blikkies. As for Juan and Schalk, it's like for like, neither is an opensider.

I challenge you to prove your argument Mike. Or is it that you have live a life of lies for so long that you no longer know how to do this?

Listen Der Aristokrat

I can take any insult - but I have never lied in my life - so i would not be quiet when a childish bullshitter accuse me of lieing.   I ask elsewhere that you grow up and start debating issues as a grown up - but that seemed to have made no impression.   Please accept one bit advice from me - grow up and behave yourself like one.

Surely Der is a wind up artist?

Anybody who does not agree with him is denounced in some way or another.

Cannot be true. I think he's having everybody on.

what game was i watching, cos i thought hougaard was awesome against england??? Bok forwards gave little to no protection around the breakdowns, but hougaard testamant to his class still delivered good ball for the first reciever.

definately put lambie back at 15, krichner did enough to be considered all right, but lambie is class and every second he spends on the bench is a waste.

alberts at 8 (which i posted a couple moths back), coetzee at 7 and brussow at 6 for sure, if england showed meyer anything, it was theres a serious need for a specialist fetcher.
i would still put spies on the bench though, i think that move could be the right motivation for him to become the threat he once was.

i would drop beast and start d greyling. greylings natural agression would help to wear down opponents for the first 50mins and then subbing on oosthuizen and letting him loose on a worn down bunch of forwards would reap rewards.

i am a big fan of JP, and while he was quiet, the balls wernt exatly getting spread out wide. i would say he needs to increase that workrate like habana and go looking for the ball or supporting on defnese and attack, cos habana was simply amazing in that department.

i would also get rid of w olivier and bring on p grant to cover 10, while leaving krcihner in at 22.

Sasu

I like your line of thinking - but do not agree about Greyling.   At the latest S15 game between the Stormers and the Bulls, Malherbe scrummed Greyling into the ground.   If we go for another prop, it should rather be Malherbe - who also performed better than Greyling in other aspects of the game as well.

Insofar as Pietersen is concerned I would rather drop him at this stage.   He was as you said quiet - but he cannot play a Habana type of game - he does not have the speed to do so.   Since 2007 there has been a noticeable reduction of speed in evidence in the case of Pietersen.   He does not seem to be able to get to the breakdown point at all and when he gets there his tackling is ineffective.    He definitely is too slow to be on the wing.    The speed issue also relates to his inability to score tries.   He went for long periods without scoring and managed to score only 7 tries in international games since the WC in 2007.   Just not good enough on international level.    I was also a great Pietersen fan - but am a realist.

Fortunately Heyneke Meyer does not consult this forum when he selects the team.

Come now windpomp you know you think you have it! Instead of chirping on the sidelines lets hear from you.

One player the bokke need is Vermuelen.

Those still bleating away about Brussouw need to note what I posted re what Meyer said about us winning the break downs. We got this very right in the second half and Meyer was very pleased with Coetzee and righly so.

Ou card is having a bad patch so dont judge the board by him. hehehehehehehe.

Listen everyone is entitled to his opinion even if he is wrong.  The day we all agree is the day they can close down the board. The wrong opinions - ie those differing from mine - are hilarious! All part of the entertainment.
