Which game of the Rugby Championship do you want to review concerning Eben? There have been questions raised about his game, so I though we could look at him more closely and see what we can learn.
Eben Review
Compare his first test back, to his 2nd test in Argentina, and why can't he be more consistent.
He is obviously a good player, but it seems that the Boks could make better use of him- the way the All Blacks always seem to get the most out of Retalick.
Retalick is far more consistent than Etzebeth.
I agree with you, that first Puma test was absolutely brutal. I don't agree with Clever Mike's theory a bit being puffed out after one showing coming back from injury though. So, maybe look at the All Black test and see what he did? Would we all be good with that?
Retalick performs a way different role in his team as Eben does in ours.
Auge, try the Allblack test. They are the benchmark teams and players are measured against.
But how do we measure things that don't reflect in the stats? And things that happen off the ball? Or positional play or anticipation? The subjective stuff?
Well, we can monitor how he moves from ruck to ruck, who is working with in those mini units and see what he contributes on attack or defence. I personally don't like stats, though it can be a discussion tool. Stats tell you almost nothing.
I'll splice the footage and bring it here.
