something he wouldnt get if he were a kiwi!

Cape Town - Springbok and Western Province lock Eben Etzebeth says he's fit to play again after being sidelined since November last year.

Etzebeth suffered a serious ankle injury during the Springboks' 2013 end-of-year tour to Europe, which saw him miss most of the Stormers' Super Rugby campaign and the June Tests against Wales and Scotland. The 22-year-old was set to make his return during the latter stages of Super Rugby, but a toe injury forced him to miss the competition.

Etzebeth confirmed that he's ready to play the next possible fixture. Western Province coach Allister Coetzee said he'd like to see Etzebeth play for WP in their Currie Cup opener against the EP Kings next Friday.

However, it's unlikely that Coetzee will get his wish granted. The Springboks are holding a training camp next week, and Etzebeth is expected to be drafted straight into the Bok squad which will be announced on Saturday night.

"It's been tough to be out of the game for so long," Etzebeth told the MyPlayers website. "A lot of people think when you're injured, you sit around and do nothing, but I've been working hard during my rehab to ensure I'll be ready for my comeback. I'm still young and my body's fresh, so I'm excited to play again. The goal for my first game back is to get through it without any further injury." (Play a low level club game)

The Springboks kick-off their Rugby Championship campaign against Argentina in Pretoria on August 16.

Etzebeth hopes he can work his way back into the national squad, which he believes will be an exciting environment.

"The Springboks have great depth at lock at the moment," said Etzebeth. "It's great to see guys likeBakkies Botha and Victor Matfield playing again. I played with Bakkies in Europe last year, and I managed to learn a lot as he passed on his knowledge. I haven't played against or alongside Victor, so I'm excited to learn from that experience.

"There's also great competition at lock with players like Lood de Jager and Stephan Lewies making their Test debuts in June. Pieter-Steph du Toit is also coming back from injury. That kind of exciting competition will be great for the Springboks, and will bring the best out of all of us."

Lewies lacks abit of grunt but has good pace and could make  a 7. Willemse is a good propspect

I agree Papamoa he is the first choice lock for the Boks IMO. Glad to see that he understands he can still learn from Mattfield though.

Hope he doesnt learn backline play and how to showboat. Lineouts yes we victor can teach that and that alone.
I feel he needs easing back after along layoff. Club rugby first.

There are a few backline players who can learn from Matfield, let alone forwards. Plenty of examples here. Look at Jaque Fourie's try and also not that he even beat Carter for one of the tries as well:

Cerundunce Windpomp scroring a try or two in such a lengthy career spent in the backline was bound to happpen. My granny could have scored those tries with such a clear run in.
I suggest you find another hero.

Beans, my sentiments exactly! Also, he WAS a good player, but by 2010 he had already become a lazy passenger that was great at line-out time and kick-off's, but then disappeared and just camped out in the back line letting the other forwards play the hard rugby.

Beeno hate to break it to you but whenever I've watched Bekker I've seen him in the Stormers backline as well. Where I agree with you that Matfield isn't the best option nowadays, in his prime he was the best lock ever, but he has lost that strength he had eg. In the video when he pushed past a few defenders from a ruck to score a try (He's wearing a red jersey, can't remember which team that was).

Doffies
Botha played in four matches for the Springboks from November last year to date:-
*   Started  against Scotland - was sub-standard in performance
*   From the bench against France -  nothing noteworthy achieved, at best average
*   Started against the World team - played for 15 minutes and vanished from sight
*   Started against Wales -  was invisible in the  first half - was replaced and his replacement showed him up badly.
Botha may still be a club player - he is not a test player anymore.   End of story.   Stop being so dim and start appreciating this is 2014 - not 2004

It is clear that Etzebeth is not as clueless as some of the clowns that we have lurking around on this forum:

"The Springboks have great depth at lock at the moment," said Etzebeth. "It's great to see guys likeBakkies Botha and Victor Matfield playing again. I played with Bakkies in Europe last year, and I managed to learn a lot as he passed on his knowledge. I haven't played against or alongside Victor, so I'm excited to learn from that experience.

Apart from their contribution on-field, there is also that little matter that all these idiotic boneheads seem to miss. These two players have a wealth of experience and knowledge to pass on and there is no coach in the world, at the moment, who can do that. Not even HM.

If you carefully look at all the players that HM has played in the past three seasons, you will notice that he has experience and youngsters in almost all of the positions. A few examples.

Fullback
Kirchner and Willie. I don't give a crap what you think of the guy, he has not let us down when he played. It is no use comparing him to Willie. They are two totally different players.

Wings
Habana and JPP on one side and the likes of Hendricks and Mvovo on the other side.

Flyhalves
Morne Steyn as the incumbent with the next generation Pollard, Goosen, etc already involved and blooded.

Locks
Victor and Bakkies with the next generation Eben, PSDT, Lood already blooded and involved.

This is the type of thing that PDV should have been doing from the day that he became the coach and then we wouldn't have been in a situation where we had to pull in the likes of Victor, etc at this stage.

I have said it quite often. At the 2011 RWC there were light years between the prime match 23 and the rest. At this stage there are at least two full teams with all the players at very close to the same level.

Say what you like about HM he is a man with a plan and only the dim and ignorant won't be bright enough to see and understand what he is doing.

They should be brught in to assist in coaching - not playing on the field - where tthheir performances are not up to standard. Kirchner s a joke in bad taste - dunny do not give a crap of what I think - but I am happy in the knowledge that most people in SA know he is crap.
Mone should have been dropped after hie went crap in 2010 and he has  been no better since.
Vicctor and Bakkies - they should follow Kalli's ecample before they disgrace the team 100%.  They are not test stabndard anymore and that is a fact.  Has not been in 2010 and is worse now.
Duncy - the team and selections were not run by De Billiers - he weas pushed around and allowed it to happen by the senior players.   That si why the fat and the lazy stayed on until 2011.
Ag foeitog - he believes that the reason for the ened to play the locks was because of De Villiers.   De Villiers had squat to do with tit - it was Meyer who tried to get them back by hook or by crook.   They were players Meyer was familiar with and that is a magor consideration of Meyer in selections - he said that   himself

Jirre ou Mike maar jy is ook so toe soos 'n klei-os se gat. You really seem to have a massive problem when it comes to reading comprehension. What I said was that PDV should have followed the same approach that HM is doing, not select the same players. The approach is what is important. He used all the available players from the Jake White squad and only filled in the gaps. Heyneke is using the "older" players alongside the youngsters. He already has more than two complete sets of "old" and "new" players. But in any case, you do not have the grey matter or the will to understand that, so carry on in your own time and your own target. If you have ever been in the SA Army, you would have heard the command: "1 0 rondtes toepassing, in jou eie tyd en op jou eie teiken. Vuur".

You once again prove yourself to be a fucking idiot, if you believe that (1) their play is not up to standard (2) that you can learn more from words (coaching) than from actions (experience of playing next to someone with more experience).

cerudunce windpomp its really no use having 37 year olds as your lead players (38 by RWC time). And please no excuses about Meyer having no one else to play at lock. Ou CW ducking and diving for all he is worth.
