I went to Langenhoven High School in Riversdale and palyed in school rugby against Oakdale in the 1950's but in only one match in years ebat Oakdale in a Rugby match. My older brother's son went to Oakdale and played forthe Pretoria Police in the 1990's and moved to England in 2001. He stayed here till three years ago and then came back to SA becuase he did not want his only son to go to an Eqivalent school in England his son is now at Oakdale - not a rugby player though - he plays in the Oakdale cricket team.
I grew up on the farm Zeekoegat a farm first used from 1720 by a man by the anme of Loos, In 1746 a magistrate office was opened in Swellendam so Loos decided he wants to get away from the bloody Government pestening everyone for taxes and he sold the farm to the first Muller who came to SA as a soldier in service in the Dutch East india Comapn and after 10 ears service was released and bought the farm from Loos for 800 riksdalders and 800 of he same for "de losse goede" and the frst farm in the area.- the site buildings in existence dated from 1768, 1795 and 1804.
The farm is bordering the Oakdale property situated just over he Vette River rom the school. I think it was in 1958 when there was a remembrance day celenbration of Oakdale's 30 ears in existence. My pteher got invovled and he task was to make 25 differnet deserts for the function. At the timewthere was onlya low level bridge over he Vetter River and without the Korente-Vette dam the farm was quite often cut off from the town due to River flooding and on the day of the celebration we were cut off from town by a flood and the puddings could not be delivered so for three days we feasted on pudidngs only.
Just stories related to Oakdale as a school.
