Forget the stats, just do the simple things well - is it that simple?
IMO you shouldn't ignore what stats & ana*lysis tell you but once you have done this you have to simplify things to get good execution. That is my understanding of what Hansen does with the ABs. That's why you hear him say they have to unclutter the minds of the players. But that dosen't mean they don't do hours of an ana@lysis first.

England's level of execution was exceptional, in all facets of play.
The Boks lack of execution (read: handling errors, exit strategy, restarts, territorial and goal kicking, basic straight running, draw and pass, inability to take advantage of numbers, missed tackles) was the worst of any Bok team I've ever seen. You can blame the coach for some of the lack of the focus, but he's not the one out there making the mistakes.
No way they can replicate what the English did without serious improvement in the simple stuff - in that respect the article is spot on.

@oimatey."You can blame the coach for some of the lack of the focus, but he's not the one out there making the mistakes."
I fully agree and have been saying for ages that SA rugby is stuffed from top to bottom. I have sympathy with Coetzee for one reason. I have used the analogy of trying to build a Rolls Royce using Dacia spares.
It is not going to be fixed overnight, no matter who the coach is. I don't even think that Eddie Jones would have achieved much with this lot. Not on the Ireland tour in any case. We would probably have done a little better but not massively better.
The skills that you refer to are not the sort of issues that a national coach should normally be concerned with. The players should arrive at the Bok camp because they already have those skills and not because they potentially have them.

"The players should arrive at the Bok camp because they already have those skills..."Totally agree. How on earth is the coach responsible for poor handlng skills!
And again..."It is not going to be fixed overnight, no matter who the coach is. I don't even think that Eddie Jones would have achieved much with this lot."
Our rugby problems are deep seated and they need to be addressed from the bottom up across the country.

I agree and disagree.
I'd like to use Damian as an example, he smashes it up all day long because that is what is required of him in the Bok model. Now, I say this not having monitored Damian's development through his youth and into representative rugby. Was he denied the skills coaching in the past or have his skills diminished because of the role a Bok 12 demands?
Let me ask you this. If Jantjies was our only option at 10, with the existing coaching staff, not knowing who the other backline players are other than the Boks have managed to acquire the services of an in form Kurtley Beale.
Where would you play him???

So the coach is not to blame for the poor Bok display, huh?
The players are all at fault ... right, Matey?
What a load of rubbish!!!!
Funny how England had similar issues ... even funnier is how all this went away under a good coach. He brought in the simple basics and it changed the English side ... so much so that they look like the only side capable of challenging the mighty All Blacks and this within only a few months.
Same players ... different team under Jones.
I'm willing to bet that had Jones been appointed as Bok coach, we would have demolished the Irish ... even with our enforced quotas.
Please Matey ... try to use a little more head the next time you post.

Funny how Ackermann (who I rate) gets a total pass for the Bok "A" team performance which was even worse. You would think the "blame the coach" crowd would be all over him.

Well said, oimatey. The deadly silence from the "blame the crowd" is blatantly dishonest.

Wallabies are simple wee critters so dumbing things down would be the smart thing to do then .

The SA A side dopes wasn't our second best side. Lots of quotas and rela tively unknown and inexperienced players. Was average age 22?
The facts are simply. Akkerman has produced a quality side from nothing. With a smaller budget (Started with empty stadium and the union in big financial trouble) he has built up a side that dominates other SA sides by playing SMART rugby. Now what exactly has wee Alistair EVER done.
Now we have the halfwit  dense denise saying "And again..."It is not going to be fixed overnight, no matter who the coach is. I don't even think that Eddie Jones would have achieved much with this lot." What he forgets is that there was an instant improvement in our backline when Jones coached the Boks. Happened immediately. Jones has an acute rugby brain, Alistair has not.
The problem here is that dense denise is not smart! Hahahahhahahahahaha

No, Matey ... once again your not thinking clearly.
I asked you nicely to use a little more head when posting. Please listen in future.
Ackerman is a good coach but he's no Jones. Not by a long shot.
That level of prowess only comes after many a year ... and only to a select few.  He was born to coach. He has a natural understanding that few possess.
Ackerman is an infant in the business. A toddler in nappies in comparison .
Besides that ... one can only do so much with the garbage he had as a team. A quota team he had a week to prepare ... so let's be a little fair here ... ok?
Denny ... ??? Geez man!!! Why so slow on the uptake??

The 2nd Test was bizarre - it was as if the "best" coach in the world told his players to leave their brains on the sideline with the reserves. The gesticulations at half time were a sight to behold.
