Elton Jantjies Best Test Ever

Today he played like he does for the Lions. 
Not sure who got man of the match, but Jantjies play-making ability was excellent. 
Overall the Boks were much more physical than in 2016. More commitment and perhaps understanding of a game plan. 
Mostert was good as well. He contributes at the rucks allot. 
It was a bit confusing who was playing where with all the substitutes and the commentators were hopeless at explaining who was playing where.
Andries Coetzee was lively, and all the players tried to avoid going to ground when it was not the best option.

Not all doom and gloom from the debutants either.
Marx should of been MOM, sky didn't show the aftermatch interviews.
Trouble is that while we're all chuffed with a win ,Toetsie is rubbing his hands and saving his excuses for another day.

Boks played well and Jantjies was good. 
France missed two tricks though:
1. Never pressured Jantjies. He should have been the priority target from the word go. Rattle him early and he becomes your (the opposition's) best player.
2. Never tested the rookie fullback and wings with pressured up and unders. They were just left to quietly settle in.
Hard to know what to take from this game as the French look a pretty average outfit: good handling skills, but no smarts and little clout up front.

@Xavi- Marx was very good- especially in the first half. He is a strong ball carrier and takes a few tacklers over the advantage line- and he has an offload game. 
@Pakie- It is true that Jantjies seemed to have unlimited space- and was not put under pressure. Not sure if his position play was perfect- or if the French were just totally poor in this area.
Skosan looks dangerous in space and a lethal finisher- unlucky about that penalty try on debut. He reminds me of Pieter Slap Stick Rossouw.

Stephanie looked a bit clumsy. 
Hougaard is a super sub. He is a great scrumhalf in space around the rucks. I prefer him as an impact player.

 For me, Coetzee, Marx and Kolisi stood out. Kriel and Serf wasn't half bad either. Good team effort. Eben was quiet, but did the job...2 lo steels weren't a catastrophe either.

Was quietly impressed with Fransie, didn't think he had anything left in the tank but he made a good impact.

 Some improvements overall. Malherbe and Marx running some good lines instead of just straight bosh. Kolisi and Mohoje were enterprising and Kolisi with some steals. 
Hard to judge where the Bokke are at with an underperforming frog side missing the stars.
If we can build on this outing in Durbs then we can judge.

 Lol about Fransy, first touch of the game after a Kolisi pilfer and he hoofed it downfield. P1ssed myself laughing thinking of what our Oom Mike would make of it.

 Did  you really expect Fat Fransie would produce anything of substance?   Kicking away turnover balls is seriously poor  and is only acceptable when relieving kicks have to be made, which the one in question was not.
Aside of that Fat Fransie's defense was poor as well,  
Should be send  back to his mate Jake White.  
       

Frans looked good, great hands offloads, decisive defensive reading of the game....physically he looked terrific.

But poor Kriel.....he ran in an uncontested try....accompanied by the usual Stransky hyperbole .But when the time came he conceded one in typical fashion: ... Except for that one moment though, Xavi. He did everything well, including showing a nice little offload.

Not saying he should be in the squad once all our centres are fit, but Fransie didn't do himself a disservice today. 

He might end up starting next week as Jesse Kriel has picked up a knock on the head. 

Anyway, onto Janjties - so happy for him, he deserved that game, he's been producing magic for the Lions all season. Maybe he's not the guy for every game but there's certain games where he will run the show.

 Mike...Frans saw that after the turnover he could put it behind the French and took the chance to do so. 

Precisely, it was a clever kick. Plum I think the Lions core concept worked today....the opposition was disastrous, but the Boks were a bit more cohesive. Good on Jantjies, I hope he can build on this.

 The turnover kick was stupid and his defense was worse.   Bad choice at center and the comments of Mozart are BS as per normal.       

 Mike there were two options.
If memory serves, the Boks were inside their own 10m.
A) Attack from there after the turnover.
B) Put the ball in behind the French in their own 22.
There was no clear overlap or gaping hole for the Boks to run through. 
Putting it into the French 22 was not nearly the terrible choice you are making it out to be.

This is not the first time Fat Fransie did that - it should never happen that a ball is kicked away aimlessly after a turnover.  It really is BS in capital letters.
And his defense was poor - the poorest of the centers.   Mozart is slipping or lying when he said his defense  was good - it was bloody horrible.

 
It's a whole lot easier to play when there's no pressure.

The French were awful and made us look better than what we are.

It was however the perfect opportunity to blood youngster like Andries Coetzee and I hope he takes a lot of confidence from this match. He impressed me.

Rhule and Skosan didn't. They had an opportunity to settle in against these useless French and blew it.

I would bring Combrinck back and slot Nkosi in at 11 for the next test. I would also push Serfontein out to 13 and bring Vorster in at 12 where he belongs.

Only, its tough leaving Skosan out. he has been a try machine for two years now and wasn't exactly presented with a great deal of opportunitues on Saturday.

But yeah, i'd have Combrink, Nkosi and Skosan as my wings in the squad.

Both Ruhle and Skosan saw just about no quality ball. Difficult to produce the good under those circumstances. I think they need to be given a fair shot before they get to o harshly criticized. By the end of the French tour we'll know where they have what it takes or not.   

Skosan should have scored on debut, were it not for the French player getting yellow carded. I thought he had a good game and should be retained for now. He is fast, and we need pace on the wing. (Habana and JP are no longer fast enough).
I am not that convinced about Rhule, but he deserves more game time to see
