Elton Jantjies over read

Far too much is being read into Elton Jantjies' performance last Saturday. True there were no classic Jantjies' implosions....but there nearly were. If Nick White hadn't knocked on his interception attempt a try was on. And certainly Jantjies kicked well on Saturday. But it never came to a point where the match was at risk and making a kick was possibly the difference. That's the issue with Jantjies as an experienced sub in the last minutes of a test. He has missed so many pressure kicks. As for his general role on Saturday, it was fairly mundane. He made a few metres without making a break or beating a defender. In truth his main weapon is the unexpected pass in traffic. Unfortunately much of the time the unexpected pass also fools his team mates as well. As a runner he is pretty toothless except for some kak stappery. Elton's better performances have come when he plays primarily as a conventional link and a kicker....which is what he did on Saturday. But he still lost the ball twice, pretty good for a Jantjies' outing. That despite the conservative game he was playing with no offloads. And his defence remains a major liability.....despite all the pumping iron he is tiny man among giants, who missed a third of his tackle attempts on Saturday. So when Fake media suggests with the welcome performance of our scrummies the halfback scene is resolved....they are being a bit naive about Elton.

It was a low pressure game played on his home ground while his forwards were giving him front foot ball. Under those circumstances Jantjies is always effective. It is when he is under pressure, or when the fields are slow, or when his pack is struggling that he implodes. One can't read anything into that performance.
