Eddie Jones doesn't rave about world player of the year Beauden Barrett.Jones made it clear, in the wake of England's 58-15 victory over Fiji at Twickenham to extend their winning streak under their Aussie coach to 11, that Barrett would not have had his vote.
Jones never wastes a chance to chip away at the All Blacks edifice and took another swing when talking up the abilities and potential of his own No 10, George Ford, after the one-sided victory over Fiji.
"People rave about Beauden Barrett but I don't. I'll leave it at that.
"I don't pick the player of the year," he added, with his trademark grin.
Jones said Ford had a "great feel for the game ... He sees opportunities".
But the England coach conceded his No 10 still had some improvements to make, including becoming a more "selfish" player.
"He needs to work on his running game a bit, needs to be more of a threat himself. He's actually too selfless. He needs to be a bit more selfish with the ball at times. But his alignment on some of the phase ball was absolutely outstanding, the best I have seen for a long time."
It was interesting that Jones chose this weekend to take a crack at Barrett after the All Blacks No 10 had put in an outstanding performance in his team's 21-9 revenge victory over Ireland in Dublin.
But Jones did concede his side had to be ready to take a setback of its own, again drawing on the All Blacks in his analogy.
"It's always fun when you are winning," he told reporters. "Our big test is when you lose a game. We're not frightened of losing. We don't want to lose a game, but we know if we do we will learn a lot from it.
"It's all part of sport. It's all part of developing a team.
'No one wins at 100 percent; not even the All Blacks. The Chicago Bulls didn't, Barcelona doesn't , Real Madrid. It's impossible with sport because you are dealing with people. You have days when you are a little bit off and the other mob is a little bit on, so you are going to get beaten."
