The All Blacks are furious after Matt Dawson, England’s World Cup-winning scrum-half, released a video ridiculing the haka.
A New Zealand camp insider disclosed that the players were deeply unimpressed with Dawson’s mocking display, believing that it denigrated the profound cultural significance of the Maori war dance to New Zealanders. They had hoped, according to the source, that their English hosts would show proper respect.(Hahahahahhahahahaha)
Dawson’s self-styled ‘hakarena’, reducing the haka to a series of disco moves and setting it to the tune of Los del Rio’s ‘La Macarena’, did anything but. The 42 year-old, now a television personality, produced the video for the clothing company Jacamo and was swiftly condemned by a leading Maori politician for “shameful” behaviour.(Puting out your tongue, rolling your eyes and slitting throats actions are probably more shameful - what say the oaks?)

It’s recognising the worth of the other side. If they’re doing something to mock the haka, I think that’s pretty shameful. The haka is very meaningful to us. I think you will find most of the England supporters think it was stupid and has probably caused the team some totally unnecessary problems as stupid people seem to think this has emanated from them. They have more than enough to deal with at this time without this sort of distraction.
Not one of his better ideas, but I'm sure Jacomo paid him too much for him to feel he could turn the offer down.
I think he, of all people, should have known better and, to paraphrase Jane Austen, I really do think it was " badly done " !

Blobbok, I didn't see the poll results but have seen some online reaction & many thought it was a lark & took it lightly. Others may take offence but I am not sure it was meant to be taken seriously. Hopefully it was not meant to ridicule NZ culture. The Poms always have a go at the haka as do many Ozzies. We all knew to expect it at the RWC.
I read somewhere where the stadiums will turn the sound of the Haka up when it will be performed to drown out crowd noise & make sure the international audience c an enjoy it.

My proposal is that all kiwi poster here should be made to adopt a daffy duck avatar so everyone will know what to expect.Next all kbbs at the RWC should be forced to wear adaffy duck tee shirt as a warning to all concerned.That should cover it.

No, World Rugby have decreed that ALL stadia have to turn the sound up, place microphones as close as possible etc etc to the Haka. This has, once again, caused great annoyance to everyone as they are quite tired of being told what to do all the time regarding this.
As for the reaction to this silly little skit, no, the online comments have been pretty disgusting and they are showing a great deal of displeasure, to put it mildly.

According to the new rules brought in a few years ago - strictly on the 10 metre line - that would have been illegal and disrespectful.
Whilst I love the haka, I think it's being overly respected.
