Yeah. I don't share the Saffa love affair with their revered "enforcer". Lady Elizabeth is a half decent player but I wouldn't get too excited. Last year you Okes were getting all "hard" over Goosen and Franna. The year before that it was Hougard and Lambie. The year before that it was DuPreez and Brussouw. It's unfortunate but a solid case could be made arguing an inverse correlation between the voracity of fanboy support for a Bokke player and their subsequent decline (whether through injury, loss of form or loss of favour). So much unrealised potential in the Republic OR they were never as good as the hype would have us believe. I'm not yet suggesting that Liz isn't a great player or that he is losing form but his progress appears stifled and has shown signs of plateauing. Besides, I'm yet to see all these gushing plaudits actually amount to any significant silverware accumulation in recent years.

No doubt about it moz. He is a great player. Has a massive work load. Only get better with each test. Good contest for our all blacks.

Thanks Papa. To be honest I don't know what he still has to do. His tackling stats are great, he was virtually a one man Bok lineout through the RC, and a fine ball carrier. I think Poly if you look at the Read try you will see Etzebeth was closing on him from 5 paces back....he just couldn't get there before Read was going to reach the line....so he lunged. But a massive lock corner flagging....that's home cooking!

Etzebeth if you are reading this, it is not too late to leave the Republic and come over to NZ and join the ABs. You are young enough and we'd happily trade Boklogic for you.

Clevermike, Mozart said "Is there anymore valuable forward in the game today" No mention that it was limited to lock forwards, hence the inclusion of Read to the exclusion of Etzebeth. Have to say it's the SA who have a love affair with Etzebeth, there seems to be a push to elevate him to legendary status by SA, but I'm still not buying it, like I said he has potential just hasn't fulfilled it. He has a great work load and plays at time like a modern lock forward, but in the loose Whitelock and even Retallic (know spelt that wrong) shade him just as he is better in the tight encounters. Dispute it all you want but our locks play their game in a winning team.

Eben Etzebeth was the best lock during the RC but there wasn't much between him and the Kiwi locks. The big problem for him was that he had crap guys partnering him in the 2ndrow. I think he played every minute of every game.

Etzebeth needs mentoring by real locks - move now Eben to NZ - the ABs are waiting to welcome you with open arms

Couldn't agree with you more Draad....Etzebeth with a fit Bekker would be a dominant combination, to quote a tired phrase. Bekker for some reason has never really caught on with Bok fans, but when his back is in good shape, he can be intimidating. And Stephanie by next year should be there or thereabouts. Well certainly a good bench option.

Hmm remember a Crusaders game this year I think where Whitelock dominated Bekker at the lineout and Bekker was for all accounts having a stellar season.

@polyboy the Stormers hooker was throwing the ball to Whitelock and not his own lock. The only match that has worse throwing was Craig Burden of the Sharks, my grandmother has a better throw.

I look forward to seeing Etzebeth play with a better lock. We will have to see if Bekker is the right lock for him.
I remember some great loose play by Bekker and he is good in the line out from what I remember but we will see how he is in the tight and overall against the ABs one day - hopefully.
