"I really think Schalk is the kind of guy that can play until he's 38. I think playing one more season would not be impossible." Perhaps this is the real plan, the coach has a secret cadre of 38 year olds, who he is confident can contribute, which he is gradually exposing to Bok fans in doses they can tolerate.

I can’t see why he shouldn’t bring back that string bean bloke... wasn’t his name Mattfield? or some such handle.

Precisely if 38 is okay, can 41 be far behind.

I know the story by now - but you have even missed out  on the basics.  Unlike Meyer Erasmus i s no fool.   He will not pick over-the-hill non-performers;   Hjmmell - I thought you were over the Matfield madness - will you never learn?????

Gosh Erasmus Head won't pick over the hill non- performers.......got it...but that kinda puts a gaping hole in your Frans Steyn stance. The old foot shooter in mid season form.

My two cents, if you are good enough, and especially the best in your position, you should play. Regardless of age. The only external factor that should play a role is bringing in younger players early enough for them to gain enough experience to be able replacements for those retiring.

I  was  not saying that age is a factor - but playing the over-the-hill duds  Meyer preferred was the main reason for the Japan disaster.   Matfield was poor whenever he played for the Springboks n 2014  and 2015 - his main claim to fame was line-out play,  yet he was frequently in crucial circumstances out-jumped by opposing players and for the rest he was plain BS in all other components of the game.   The fact is he was one of the players who flopped badly and cost Meyer his job,

Brits was not the starting hooker for Saracens anymore and we have seen what happened in the case of the  other serial flop -  the Stade Francais bench-warmer Morne Steyn - another disaster for both Meyer and Coetzee.

He wanted to have a look at Fat Fransie - yet the non-center was not available  due to what -a fake injury perhaps?    The diabolically slow and unfit Fat Fransie will not be recalled for  the RC.    Erasmus was probably shocked out of his boots when he saw the disaster he was in the Top 14 final.

I’m so glad that in ou Maaikie we have someone who keeps us all on track by being a prime example how tonnever to keep on pissing about one particular incident/game. Oh wait......... “I was not saying that age is a factor - but plying the over-the-hill duds Meyer preferred was the main reason for the Japan disaster.”

"Bring back Buck !!!" oops I mean "Bring back Victor !"

The ABs have played their best ever rugby with guys like Maccaw and all the other "oldies " who were supposedly past it ,a good mix of old ,seasoned and brand new out from under the radar players  like Milner Skudder.

Ceradunce - dofdoos

That was not the only game where the duds lost games - try and see what happened in the EOYT of 2014 and the 2015 RC.   A string of disasters - the worst ones being the local loss to Argentina in the RC and the Japan disaster.    Then there also was the semi-final - in which Matfield was a disaster as well.

And then there was the real classic in the WC - making a flopping Burger first receiver and cutting out the flyhalf.   That really nullified any role the backline may  have played in the game.

Meyer was a farce - his worst selections being non-performing players selected on reputation or being his braai buddies - they ultimately jeopardized  his contract renewal    Thank heavens for that.   Coetzee was a dud similar to Meyer - but Erasmus is not going to be the fool those two were.

Since Mozart is dead set on suggesting duds to play for SA - I will always remind him and his fellow Village Idiots about what happened in the past - especially the Japan disaster.

Matfield and Gregan the Iron Men of Rugby   Bwahahahahahhahahahahaha great one Dr Moz - calling the most feeble lock ever to play international rugby, a guy who shunned the physical stuff like the plaque an iron man is hilarious! Hahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahhah ahhahaha

Britz is there in a mentoring role and we don't really need him as a player. Doubt he will play much if at all. We shall see.

Reckon Akkers deserves a start at Newlands.

Beeno the voice of sanity!

Beeno

Here we go again.  Matfield was on return from his retirement a real farce insofar as rugby is concerned.   Other than line-outs - his contribution as a Tight 5 player was really non-existent at the best of times.   After his return he was noted for being sub-standard in line-outs as well.

Iron man - that is another Mozart classic.   He never was one,   What was his nickname - Kiewiet, because he was so week in the legs and even Botha refers to his constant moonlighting in the backline.

But then when it cimes to Mozart he will always support dud selections.

I tepeat.....the Japanese game may have been made unnecessarily close by sub par performances by the entire team, including Lambie and the Vets. But the game was lost by Coenie stupidly getting a card at the crucial point.....and ultimately by Jessie Kriel being overpowered in the tackle for the winning Jap try.

Mozart

The main losers of the game was Bismarck giving away 4 penalties all convertible - Burger constantly knocking on balls when he was stand-in flyhalf  (4 knock-ons as well), Matfield and De Villiers looking sheepish throughout the game and not following  any reasonable  game plan and Pienaar giving away two convertible penalties himself.

De Villiers was not matchfit in that game and  Matfield was a joke in bad taste as well.

The reasons you gave was what everyone would describe as BS in extreme.   You tried constantly to hide what really happened in the game through vague references to other players and  lay the blame effectively on Lambie, Kriel and now a new one Oosthuizen.

The Japan disaster was after a string of atrocious performances from November 2014 and I suppose you would not accept that the real reason was the disastrous performances of the rugby geriatrics and would try to blame some of the younger players as you did in this case.  .

Erasmus "Head" ... ?? What's that about?

Is he getting or giving head?

It's stupid if you ask me.

Mike has nothing else to contribute.

It's just a jumbled up version of the same old tired posts we've seen from him these last 5 years.

He accuses others of repetitiveness.

LOL!!!

He needs to be put into a home with 24/7 care.

Such a bore!!

I only respond to Mozart's repetitive BS -and yours as well.   There is plenty of that to respond to.

You went particularly quiet about the last two tests - did you not?   And when you came back no t  word about those two tests - so what is going on?

Why, Mike?

Did you miss my expert opinion ... my total objectivity?

It's rather refreshing from your repetitive bias, huh?

Glad to know you set such a high value on my posts.

Lets face facts - your objectivity is non-existent but it is fun to see you back.
