Etzebteth enhances his iron man reputation that so scare the wee abs!

Cape Town - On Friday night at Newlands, Stormers and Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth further enhanced his reputation as a man who doesn't mind a bit of off-the-ball action. 

With 20 minutes played against the Blues, the Stormers gave away a penalty on their own line for a high tackle. 

The Blues weren't chuffed, and Etzebeth got stuck in, giving Akira Ioane a solid shove to the chest. 

What followed was a proper game of rugby handbags - not an uncommon sight and something that, if we're all honest, we quite enjoy. 

But the replays showed that Etzebeth had raised a hand to Ioane's face, and he was off for 10 minutes. (Man this wee Ioane must be thanking his lucky stars the ref was there to protect him!)

The Blues scored from the resulting penalty and then had a second try with Etzebeth off the field, making it a costly card. 

But coach Robbie Fleck, speaking after the game, said it was a "tough" situation for Etzebeth, with so much going on in the scuffle. 

"It’s tough ... everyone is having a go there. Both teams were certainly up for it," said Fleck.

"You push someone in the face and it is a yellow card ... that’s the law. There was a lot of pushing and shoving in people’s faces ... it’s hard to defend yourself. It is a yellow card and it put us under pressure.

"That’s rugby. It’s great to see that both teams are at it and I think there’s healthy respect there. You could see that when it broke up."(Some oaks get in an awful tiz even at a few handbags !!! . The oak should watch more bowls!)

The Blues are a side with a lot of attacking flair, but on Friday they stood up to the Stormers physically as well.

"I think they knew that we were going to challenge them physically and they were up for it and so were we," said Fleck.

"That little incident on the line showed that they were in for it and so were we. We matched them. They’re a big side and they’ve got some big x-factor players and I felt that we nullified that." Yes the smaller Strormers out faced down the bully boy blues for sure. It wont always be the case I know but it was in this case!)

The Blues also spent time with 14 men with wing Mutt Duffie first shown a yellow card for offside and then a second yellow and red for diving illegally on Cheslin Kolbe.(Hence I use the term bully boys picking on wee Cheslin like that!) 

Fleck was concerned with how his side struggled to capitalise on having an extra man.

"We didn’t convert when they had a yellow card which is something we have to work on. We have to understand that they’re a number down in the backline and we kept trying to hammer away at them up front where we should have let the ball go," said Fleck.(Yes Fleck but you need a captain with a half a brain and wee Kolisi hasn"t got that!)

"I felt that they were smarter than us when it came to the yellow card and they were more effective."

Blues skipper James Parsons denied that it was part of the plan to target Etzebeth's discipline. 

"It wasn’t the plan at all. If you attack one of our brothers, we’re all going to jump in and it’s as simple as that," he said.(Nope they love to get half the team together and see if tey can take on Eben!)

"It’s a team philosophy. It was war out there … that’s what it felt like at times."

The Stormers are next in action when they visit the Sharks on Saturday while the Blues host the Chiefs on Friday.

The Stromers will be outgunned size wise but Allende being back will help. WE can field two 100 kg plus centers and that will help. Play Brandon at flyhalf and Leyds on wing. When will Elstadt be back.

 There is no way he should stop doing things that indicates he is a hard man - but stupidity like happened on Saturday that nearly cost his team a loss in the game should be cut out.
He should be a hard man within the rules of he game and not lose his temper when provoked and opts for a card.  I a sorry to say his hard man act on Saturday was stupid and was that of a school yard bully - not a rugby player of stature.   He actually started the problem with an uncalled for push off the ball of Ioane in the back of the player and got what he deserved in he case of that card.
Elstadt played for WP on Friday - so technically he is back.  De Jongh also played in that game against the SWD Eagles.   I hope they forget about De Jongh at center - he was harmless against the Eagles as he is normaly the case against Super Rugby opponents.   Bad news that one. 

 Beanhead, he is trying too hard to be a hardman. SBW would have floored him but this is rugby and not boxing PLUS there are laws against professional boxers hitting amateurs like Etzebeth. Advise him to let it go and concentrate on the rugby - he is a good player and I like him.

 Hacked waaaugh poor sunny bill willimas couldnt flkoor a fifty year old big bop Botha . In fact they shortened the fight to avoid poor sunny bill being carried out the ring!If wee sunny billy had tried to punch Eben he would have shattered his hand.

I think he was glad to get sent off because it gave him a chance to change his soiled underpants.
The only way I can picture this blubbering bully boy as an "iron" man is if he's ironing his boyfriend's shirts.

People felt that he was depriving younger lads I guess. 
Is he a legend? Certainly. Should he have come out of retirement? Absolutely not.
Another testament to Meyer's extremely poor tenure. Had four years then started trying to get everyone out of retirement come the WC, and lost to Japan.

 All Etzabeth proved is that he doesn't have a brain & that we already knew

 After being over-the hill the useless Matfield came back to play rugby in 2014.  Granted he was so light he could be lifted easily in line-outs - something that happened with Faf de Klerk on Saturday.   For the rest he was not a players backside after 2011 and was a disruptive element being a favourite of Meyer.  
He used to e a man in 2007 - thereafter he was clearly over the hill by 2011 and was a disaster in line-outs subsequenty.   Examples are the constant line-out fumbles or losses in test against the AB's and the clueless penalty turn-around in the WC semi in 2015.  The man ended up destroying his own reputation.      

If you do an image search on Eben Etzebeth it's amazing how many of the pics are of the Roid Rage bully in some kind of handbags situation . . . and he's almost invariably got that same "I-are-so-tough-I-even-smiles-for-you" grin slapped on his face.



















Pity. He could be such a good player but instead he's just an embarrassment.

 I have a love hate relationship Eben. He somehow managed to improve last year. Unlike almost every other Bok under Toetie. That alone shows his quality. 
BUT he goes missing too often for the Stormers. Whether that's because he is pacing himself for the Bok games, or if he is just too big to play a full 80, I don't know. 
There is no denying his ability though. He just needs to mature, and for me, lose 5-10kgs.

 mmm.. Hate to admit it but Im a bit of a fan of Etzebteth, the man is a machine. The only clause is he cant control his anger and thats a weakness that can be exploited by the wee abs. Not hard to eliminate the big Ogre... An ogre (feminine ogress) is a term used in myth and folk tales for a variety of abominable and brutish hominid monsters, informally large, unpleasant, grotesque, predatory, and typically cannibalistic towards normal human beings, infants, and children.... That sums the man up nicely. But if the guy controls his aggression and smarts up he'll be a real menace. But I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen any time soon going by his latest escapades.

 I'm sure he'll tone it down a bit after the card. If anger and his temper was really a problem, he would have really hit someone by now. The opposition really targets him and he hasn't lost it yet.

 ...they say to give the kids with behavioural problems in your class a bit of responsibility  and i see he has been made co captain for his team which might help.. .not sure wether that applies to children with emotional problems..

 He was way more reserved when he was captain a few matches ago...even had a dissuasive talk with one of his other players getting a bit hot-headed.  No emotional problems, but dealing with some pesky kiwis 4 weeks in succession will drive many a good man to violence. 

 DbDraad, so you mean a team that's non SA and uses its brain on the field instead of hitting your head into a brickwall and expecting something different to happen. The Stomers will no doubt be back in bok country and the game will once again become very simple and easy to follow for Etzebteth 

 Oaks lets be honest and face facts.Firstly, apart from being 105 kg and easy for his props to lift wee matfield was the worst Bok lock ever. Naturally these kbbs loved ou victor as it ment we had a tight 4 and not a tight 5. I have to add wee matfiled's backline play was also very poor.Now along comes the MAN Eben in the same mould as the legendary Bakkies. He terrifies the kbbs and they are all a twitter. Eben plays too rough they squeal with wee rooitwitterbug right behind them wailing his empty head off. The obvious fact is that unless there was a ref to protect the opposition not one of those incidents would have happened. I can only suggest some here change codes and go and watch the ladies netball which would be more suitable to their delicate temperaments    Bwhahahahahahahahahaha. Actually some here are an embarrassment to the game.
