EW Viljoen makes 20% of his tackles

What about the rest - the defense was putrid and every time they tried to make a tackle two people must help in the tackle and that did not work out either - it left a gap on the outside or even the inside situation.  
Did you watch the poor display?    At least from what I have seen  the main problem was not Viljoen - it was the two outside of him.       

Viljoen is very easily beaten laterally.....the next worst backline tackler was Marais. These chaps clearly were overrated based on playing poor teams. Kolbe is always a defensive liability, but today his numbers were better than average for a Stormers back. Kriel was also reasonably solid defensively.

 Let's not forget Kolbe who has duped us all. The lad just is not big enough to defend properly. Hitting Kolbe is guaranteed to give you an extra 2m as you trip over him.
His attempted intercepts only rarely result in points but often result in points against. 
For me he should play 9 or stick to lower leagues.

In fairness in a number of the situations where Kolbe shot forward the Canes had overlaps. He either pulled it off or they scored anyway. Our defensive structure was hopeless. But Viljoen and Marais were horrible as well. Marais hangs off the tackle too much and Viljoen is easily beaten laterally. The Springbok hopes for these two have to be over. . Leyds and Kolbe are oft criticized.....but Kolbe is third in the tournament in defenders beaten...and Leyds is ninth in clean breaks, seventh in tries. Granted they aren't the best defensively, but they are effective on the attack....and until de Jongh comes back, who is there to turn to that will be improvement?

 Another midget coming back - the useless De Jongh who is worse than Viljoen by the proverbial mile.   The man cannot pass - he cannot defend - has been constantly the worst defender and on attack he is useless.   Are you really serious hoping for the return of that one?

Viljoen's defensive frailty was already evident against the Chiefs when McKenzie beat him twice. Being able to only tackle the average guys is not good enough. You need to be able to tackle the really good guys as well, because you'll be facing only the really good guys in test rugby.

The defense is putrid by all players - to single out Viljoen is not a real solution.   It is part of a much wider problem and the reference to bring back De Jong is definitely not the answer.   The whole issue smells strongly of prejudice.
