With wee Mostert@5 lighter than most flanks, a small blindside flank in Kriel, and linking number 8 (upon Whitely return)- it is certainly the lightest pack the Boks have ever fielded.
If you want to play a 15 man game, you have to have quick and fit forwards to get to the breakdown. (Otherwise, too many turnovers are conceded. )
The forwards are doing the role of forwards- and the backs are doing the role of backs. Much less the Schalk at 10, and Matfield variations.  
I think it is a team that can still develop in at least 5 positions to get the best mix of power, skill, fitness, and pace to play a Lions style of rugby at international Bok test level. 
An outside center must be on the Shopping list to replace Jessica Kriel. 
Jan Serfontein is excellent on defense- but just ok on the attack. Rohan offers more on attack. 
Pollard could be the playmaker we need at 12, but he needs game time. He would add an extra kicking option- and well as a better distributor than Serfontein. 
An inform Delande, could be good- but he has been a cart horse of late. He can also be a defensive liability. 

Having Whitely back as a linking number 8 was also improve the attacking options.

 Well, it could be that Bok coaches are learning from Richie even though they don't have his statue yet. Congrats Richie, well done mate
