Faf - Frustrating Cricket Comments

I am not going to be overly harsh on this result, but I will be honest by saying it is extremely frustrating when comments like below are made by our national captain after a loss.

Here is what Faf had to say, when interviewed after today's loss of the 3rd test.

"The mistakes in the first Test and the third Tests have been obvious."

So, the professionals that represent our country, and get paid a sh!t load of money doing it.... did not learn a single thing from the first test?

"Our batters can learn from Elgar. We came out today and the guys fought really well. As Test batsmen, we have to score hundreds. Amazing knock from Dean today, showed us what we needed to do here."

Really now, so Amla, De Kock, and Faf can now learn from Elgar, on how to be patient and score a slow, deliberate and deserving ton.

You would swear that with their current experience in the team, and mental fortitude from the amount of games they have all played between them, Elgar would be learning from all of them, and not the other way around.. maybe barring De Kock.

Frustrating is an understatement

I remember in 2013 when Dale Steyn had 16 to get off 19 balls, with 3 wickets left, to give us an outright win in the one Wanderers test against India

With the possibility of making all time history by chasing the world record of 418 runs previously chased down by the West Indies against Australia, we were chasing 458 to win, but Steyn and Philander shouldered arms for 3 overs and we drew with 8 needed to win.

Steyn... to the crowds huge disappointment, which I agree, even hit a 6 when he knew they could no longer lose

Gibbs at the time said that that particular win would have eclipsed the 438 game, in his opinion

Kepler said that they had more to win by going for it, than playing for the draw, as did the majority of South Africans at the time.

Must be a mentality thing, because no ways in hell  would the Indians or Aussies in particular, have let an opportunity of a lifetime like that, pass them by.

I have to agree with Chippo here

The batting was absolutely dismal

Then... normally, it's the usual

"We will learn from this"

"This is a young team"

"We will refocus and come back hard"

"The senior players need to lead by example and get runs on the board"

 
Most of our boys don't care any more.

Teams of yester year would be gutted at a loss. You could see it in the way they spoke ... in the way they held themselves.

Now they come off laughing and joking as though it's no big deal.

I have to say CC, I 100% agree

I don't exactly expect them to all burst into tears with a loss, but I must say, comparing the new era teams with the reactions of the previous era teams, there is no comparison regarding the grit and determination to succeed, barr ing a few players.

Regarding the drawn game that I mentioned above, that said a lot to me back then on what the team mentality was about.

Playing it way too safe

Ponting, Waugh, Hussain, Vaughan..... would never have settled for a draw with 8 runs needed to win
