Springbok Dean Greyling has been cited after a flying elbow to the face of Richie McCaw, for which he received a yellow card during the match.

Cape Town - The message from Sport24 readers to Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer couldn't be clearer: Drop Morne Steyn or face the sack!

Steyn's once reliable kicking radar appears to have gone haywire as he managed to convert only one of six attempts against New Zealand at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin last Saturday.

There was a backlash by Sport24 readers, who believed the flyhalf had cost the Springboks the Test.

Here's what Sport24 readers had to say about Steyn's performance:

"Heyneke Meyer Is well on his way to becoming the least successful coach in more than 100 years of Springbok rugby. His persistent refusal to include a goal kicker in the side allows the opposition to illegally spoil Springbok play with impunity." - John Burchard

"Good performance from the forwards that was disappointingly butchered by our lame backline." - Dean Greeves

"I don't want to see Morne again in a Bok jersey." - Jannes Bothma

"Morne should no longer be the first choice flyhalf.  He hasn't been on form for a while now and lost the game for us. Not only did he miss those vital penalties but he constantly kicked away possession." - Clinton Haronga

"Morne has not kicked consistently well for a long time now. He was very reliable in past and only got into the Springbok team for his kicking. He may get his confidence back again and may get his form back again but perhaps he needs a break. Find a new reliable kicker in the meanwhile." - MBE

"I hope HM takes the emotion out of his decision and let common sense and sanity prevail by allowing MS to rest."
 - Eben de Jongh

"I think Morne and Heyneke should both throw in the towel." - R Adams

"He is only a good kicker, not a good flyhalf, he never has been and never will be. When his kicking is off form he must be dropped." - Roy Brophy

"Morne must not be crucified. He is not the only player in the team who played badly, there are 14 other players who also performed poorly."
 - Nico v Dyk

"Morne unfortunately, is out of form and he should get sent back to the Currie Cup to work his way back to the Green and Gold." - Ando Gagiano

"Morne will have to be permanently subbed from the starting 22. He is not on form at all! Bad kicking missing 4! If this is his so called speciality Heyneke could choose Dean Greyling to kick at goal." - Hough Heinrich

"We are tired of losing because of coaches' personal feelings towards players. It was the same with Div and John at the end! Man up, it is our team not yours! Steyn has had enough chances to redeem himself!"
 - Karl Strauss

"Patrick Lambie is not a fullback, he should be playing flyhalf for the Springboks."
 - CJ

"Is Elton Jantjies is not good enough, or is he not the right colour?" - Nolan

"Peter Grant was the best kicker in the Super 15, and deserved a chance."
 - RA

"Heyneke Meyer is right that its not only about goal kicking. Our back line looked rejuvenated with Goosen, Steyns defense is very lacking and his tactical kicking is extremely poor. He deserves no more chances and no spot in a Springbok squad at this point in time." - Jan Seegers

"Anyone but Steyn."
 - RRV Hobson

Not 1 of the comments suggested that Morne should be retained.   I think th public feeling on the issue is very strong and I cannot say they are wrong.   Meyer should be careful of public opinion - it could lead to stern action being taken against him.   I would feel he should at least drop Morne for now and try a new option - if it does not work he can bring Morne back or at least have reasons for bringing him back. We are out of contention for the Championship in any event - it it would not do irrespairable damage to start trying out new options.now and not delay it further.   A further loss would go down badly - but if there are indeed changes in the team - Meyer would have a good enough reasons for a loss - without changes he would be crucified by th public in the event of another loss

agreed clevermike- Morne must be dropped from the squad. He will not be the first Springbok to be dropped, and many players have comeback stronger after being dropped. Percy Montgomery lost his form and was dropped but came back a different player- less flair but much more consistent. However I do not really see Morne as an option for the next world cup unless his pole kicking is back at the level a few years ago. Meyer should be using his grace period as a new coach to bring in new talent, and not these Bulls players that are way past their best. On current form the Bulls are going to be terribale in next years Superxv. The could even get relegated from the Curry Cup. Nearly all of the Bulls selections this year have been a total failure. Werner Kruger, Dean Greyling, Donkey Potgieter,. If Meyer could just over his Bulls Bias, and select the best players I think he will be a success. If he persists with the Bulls, he is going to be crucified.
