I'm playing in both the Superbru and the Rugby Magazine Fantasy Rugby competitions.
When I was picking my teams for round 1 I decided I was going to pick an Italian winger and make him my round 1 captain given that they were playing against lowly Namibia. Once the Italian team was announced I checked it out and saw that the wingers were Edoardo Padovini and Mattia Bellini, both names I recognise but neither one a player I know particularly well so I read up a bit about them and decided I'd go for Padovani.
Off I went to the Rugby Mag comp to finalize my team only to find that they have Padovani listed as a fullback rather than a winger . . . so I decided to select Bellini as my Rugby Mag captain and Padovani as my Superbru captain and hedge my bets.
Comes the game and it's a very frustrating game for me to watch because Italy try to win it with pushover scrums and the ball hardly goes out to the wingers, but at least Padovani scores a try and makes a lot of metres in broken play while Bellini does pretty much nothing.
Okay, I say to myself after the game, at least I'll score well in Superbru even if my Rugby Mag score is crap. To my surprise I see that Bellini scores a respectable 26 points on Rugby Mag while Padovani scores a pathetic 6 points on Superbru. I click on Padovani's score breakdown and find they haven't even given him the points for the try, they've given those points to Bellini.
I pop an email to Superbru telling them that they've mixed up the two Italian wingers and asking them to please correct it and I get an email back telling me that the official stats at https://www.rugbyworldcup.com/match/italy-namibia#stats state that Bellini scored the try.
One of two things happened . . . either rugbyworldcup.com got the players mixed up or else the commentators, planetrugby.com, sprts24.co.za and a few other sites mixed them up. I'm still not sure who was the #11 and who was the #14 but I do know it was the #11 who scored the try!
